We all know the pedal box is shifted to the right (US) and tight. Hence all the driving shoes talk.

I’ve been intentionally practicing heel toe downshifting as much as I can when braking (for fun mostly). I discovered that the pedal box has this hump right below the gas pedal that is perfect for wedging your heel into and using as a pivot point to help execute the heal toe move.

in most cars when you heel toe your foot is floating off of the floor to hit the brake and then you need to jab the throttle while maintaining constant brake pressure. It’s not that easy although you get used to it.

In the emira you can rest your heel on the hump, use your toe to reach the brake and then the side of your foot is already grazing the gas pedal. You simply rotate the outer edge of your foot to jab the throttle and brake pressure is not disturbed.

This hump makes heel toe so much easier in the emira! I discovered this by accident and wonder if this was purposeful design. If so ingenious.

Foot resting on the hump and reaching for the brake pedal. Gas is right there!
