PosersI'm glad you're happy with it, but it anyone ever asks please admit that its fake. I wouldn't want all Lotus owners to be thought of as posers.

I did, wanted to do the grill mount but without wanting a stripe so would have meant painting to cover holes.Re the smaller plate, did you modify the existing mounting plate?
Yes , you willI did, wanted to do the grill mount but without wanting a stripe so would have meant painting to cover holes.
That's a 13x3.5 plate
Posers
Yeah but still looks better than plain old plastic.Sorry if the truth hurts, but that's plain old plastic posing as carbon fiber.
ExactlyYeah but still looks better than plain old plastic.
The actual truth is that an aesthetic carbon fiber engine cover on top of a Camry engine in the grand scheme of things is ridiculous poser status.Sorry if the truth hurts, but that's plain old plastic posing as carbon fiber.

Of all the things to argue aboutβ¦
I get the logic behind the statement but I think most carbon fiber accents on cars could fall into this category when they aren't meaningful in terms of weight reduction. As an example, my BMW came with a carbon fiber package (mirrors, spoiler, exhaust tips, etc.) but IMO it's pretty much just for looks since I'd bet the total weight reduction is virtually negligible. The actual truth is that an aesthetic carbon fiber engine cover on top of a Camry engine in the grand scheme of things is ridiculous poser status.

Make a second one and Iβll buy it from youDude my wood-panel engine surround will be epic!

I think the surround looks amazing regardless of whether it's true carbon fiber or not. It would be a total waste IMO to bother with a REAL carbon surround given that the plastic one probably weighs almost nothing as-is. True weight savings by the use of CF are a totally different issue such as hoods, roofs, wheels, seats, etc. that materially reduce overall weight.
Personally, I'd go for this surround just for the looks and if someone asked, I'd just tell them I had it dipped because it looks friggin amazing

Yes , so is my CarbonAnd as we all know, appearance is subjective.
Was quoted Β£780 by Black Stag Styling, near Woodbridge, for just the inner 2 sections! Any suggestions for Specialists in East Anglia?Well said
You have a skill with words , it my Car and I decided to have it , and it looks amazing . Many people have seen it and love it , a car should reflect your personal tastes , I have not bought an Emira to please anybody else , I just love it

I would have no problem telling people itβs hydrodipped. I personally think it simply looks better than plain plastic. Would I prefer real carbon fiber - sure. But the cost difference is too great for something that is purely for aesthetics. The difference is that the BMW has actual carbon fiber, not disguised regular plastic. The hydro dipping is equivalent to spray painting your wheels gold and telling everyone that they're actually made of gold.
