Decat - KINDA

So instead of replacing the 3rd cat with the De-cat.. Could I just bore out the 3rd cat and it would be like having a straight pipe (GRP 3rd cat delete) back there? So If I had to take it somewhere no one would know...

I dunno just thinking would that save me a few hundred $$ and still sound basically the same?

Any pitfalls? Any issues anyone can see?

Upsides: Free
Downsides: Flow won’t be the same as a straight tube, you ruin a valuable stock cat, it’s extra work, and the rest of the Emira community wonders why you bought an Emira to save $250.

Really just wondering for wondering sake.. To keep it stock looking.. that a valid response?

I doubt I would keep the 3rd cat if I removed it afterwards.. So not sure what to do with it other than scrap... open to ideas.. I guess I could keep it in storage for whenever I sell it (6+ years from now)..

I have a friend that offered to help me install the valve controller and I mentioned the 3rd cat delete and he said he has "bored" out his other cars and it's simple and free.. so I thought I would ask the community it's thoughts on this..

No one can even see the 3rd cat unless they take the under tray off. I would be concerned with the bore introducing all sorts of debris into that path. I would say not worth the trouble. Not even sure how that would sound.

2 points here, both were mentioned by @seriously and @kitkat. What if you ever needed an OG 3rd cat, expensive and the time it would take to remove, bore, reinstall, NOT worth the effort. Not much room to store it in a drawer in the garage.

100% this would be a bad idea due to being a COSHH risk by cutting through a cat internal causing dust from multiple types of metal, some being chemically treated.
The bypass pipes are $250 on average and if you have to sell it back to a dealer stock you can sell the pipe. If they don’t say anything you have a cat to sell.
Previous on a different car I had a cat turned into a fake cat where they cut it open from the top and inserted a by pass tube inside. From below it looked like a standard OEM cat but became an issue when my MOT garage stopped getting around the emissions check.

For $250 saving, I really dont see the positives. Too many on here have asked about warranty work on modded cars, and having the Cat to re-install should your car need work seems worth the cost of the bypass pipe
