Emira Issues - from final production cars

I think the point of asking the question is to get more data points as to why this might be happening and how owners might be able to avoid it temporarily rather than an excuse for Lotus's quality control :).
It can’t be an avoided and if it’s was to happen, it would happen hopefully within the first year of ownership so that it can be fixed under warranty.

A bit off topic but in regard to people saying “lotus should wish to be telsa” Tesla just continues to amaze me 😂

Yes, the panels are made in Portugal using materials made in France.

@virtualmacho , thanks for posting this info on the Emira Body Panel Manufacture. Interesting read!

From the article:
Teijin Automotive Technologies’ Ultra Lite technology uses proprietary, treated glass bubbles to replace some of the CaCO3, allowing the resin to adhere to the matrix and increase the interfacial strength between the bubble and the resin. This treatment technology results in a more robust resin mix making molded parts more resistant to handling damage, preventing micro-cracks that cause paint pops, pits and blistering, and improving paint adhesion and bonding characteristics.

Well, maybe this technology still has some issues..... I hope Teijin gets it sorted out quickly.

No miles isn’t this like £5k ish cheaper than new - surprised even with decent saving against rrp no takers .
Unless it's a cash buy. With the current high interest rates, there won't be much takers. It's not the car, it's the current market (whatever brand).

Just as when my Emira list of issues are being resolved, one by one over 7 months, back and forward to the dealers. Another one appears 🤬. Now blisters on the passenger side door paintwork. Recently had my drivers side door repaired from bubbles now the other side.

I do wonder if the herpes is going to spread to other panels?

I can’t imagine that just one panel would be affected, it’s an issue with the GRP panel manufacturer. I really hope more of these don’t pop up, it’s a deal breaker for me.

No clue how you’re keeping your cool right now.

So frustrating.

I’m livid. Question for you guys, the repair on my drivers door is perfect when standing 2 metres away.

However if I kneel down (take my glasses off) and look properly I can see pits, some rough edges, dots marks, sanding marks and overspray. Am I being a pain in the arse for expecting perfection? (Like new). Garage seem to think I’m being too anal and tells me it’s not a new car anymore, they’ve done their best. But having OCD, liking things all shiny and new, I can’t help but notice these minor imperfections.

No, it should return to you looking as new as possible, that was the reason of the repair in the first place. Tell the dealer to do the job properly

That’s BS!! It was bought new, and should have the expectation of NEW condition!! Unless of course they want to give you a new replacement??

Actually, after two attempts of respraying the door, door gaps and aligning the windows. They have still not managed to fix it properly. At 70 mph, there is a whistle coming from the window, whereas before the repair there was none. I explained to them that there is a tiny gap at the top which needs realignment.

I might ask Lotus for a new car if they can’t fix it or reject the car.

Unfortunately it seems the dealer is not up to the task, personally I would advise to talk to CS so they could forward the warranty claim to a different dealer. Cars have been in serious crashes and have been restored to a state better than the original and they can’t align a door of a new car ? That’s non sense.
