The thing that jumps at me the most actually isn't the review by Evo - its the inconsistency of the brake pedal if anything - Autocar and Evora don't like the gear change, Harry and Autotrader do... some pedals are offset, some are perfect. The engine is old, but it has character....

Summary - these are opinions - I think a drive is the only way we will know its the right car for each of us... in this case, I am glad I am a September build...

Tell that to the Evora GT with advertised 3.8s 0-60... and the exact same powertrain. 🙄
It weighs 150kg less than the Emira though unfortunately (fortunately however you want to look at it)

Plus its £25k more. Probably £35k more in today's money

One thing that I find interesting, choose the best car you've driven, or owned, search those reviews and see how many agree with your opinion entirely or sing the praises as much as you do...
This is a very good point. I lost count of the number of times reviewers complained about how awkward it was getting into an Exige. I always thought they should just HTFU and get their lard asses down the gym :) It was one of the things I actively liked about the car. It somehow added to the sense of occasion driving it, and the high sill really made you feel part of the car.

To be fair, I haven't seen anyone able to replicate that figure from Lotus. The best I saw in a magazine was 4.0sec measured in the Evora GT.

I'm ashamed at my recent review binging...getting out of hand

The trouble is they are all reviewing different things and buyers are all looking for different things - only when you have an intersection is it actually useful. I personally cannot drive like Jethro, not even close, and will not run on track much - so the EVO review is hardly relevant. Moreover I'm more interested in feel, engagement and fun on the road rather than outright capability and performance. What do I care if the engine is old?

So that leaves me with a handful of ponderances:

1. is the brake pedal really an issue? I want to be able to H&T easily
2. Is the pedal offset placement a LHD thing? not a big deal
3. Is it playful enough - this is the biggest one for me, is it simply too grippy? Seems to have some understeer dialed in. However I doubt I'll be pushing that hard 90% of the time and learning the idiosyncrasies of a car is part of the joy of driving.

Pretty happy overall - sounds like it'll be a blast. Ice Grey looks amazing too.

I watched the Evo one first and was having a mini panic over the car, but the rest are a lot less critcal.

Anyone got any idea when we might see an i4 review?

So now Lotus is out here over rating their specs while everyone else is under rating?

I'm mostly concerned about the transmission shifting feel. I like a notchy shift feel, but I also want precision and confidence in my shifts.

To your third point, I'm sure it'll be a fun car and playful enough. I'm used to tuned turbo cars with a massive torque hits early on in the RPM range. This makes for a lot of fun coming out of turns with proper throttle modulation. The supercharged V6 in the Emira is more linear and has to be held between ~4300-6800 for the playful parts. I'm still hoping sport mode will allow revs up to 7k, but that's yet to be confirmed...

Just watched the Rory Reid Autocar review. Full of praise for the handling when thrashing around a track (Sport + Cups). Leaves me even more baffled by the Evo track review.

Exactly. I value Rory's reviews and he was very positive about the Emira, though it was only driven on the road. We'll have to wait for the Chris Harris on-track review...

Another takeaway I have from these reviews -- they're not all that much different from the first initial prototype reviews.

Eh? He was driving around Hethel's track!

I wonder if some of the testers can't calibrate to driving a left hand drive car and shifting with their right, not muscle memory left hand?

What I’m taking away is:
1: Great looking car & interior holds its own now
2: Drives well, but V6 is not earth shattering
3: Good value for money
4: waiting list will ensure good residuals

LOL, you're correct! Sorry I'm in a daze from being up early and binging every video and written review as they are published. 🙃

I remember the shifting concerns mentioned during the proto reviews too.... Really wish this was resolved. Not happy about the brake pedal distance comments either.

I am late to the party. Read the entire thread before I watched the EVO review. If you have both a GT4 and a horrible Emira on a track, why not give us two track times instead of hammering the car? The EVO review just seemed off like somebody kidnapped his dog and was telling him what to say. Moving on...

Read the Top Gear article and loved it. Why? Because comparing cars IMO is good and needed but I think the best perspectives are "what is this car and how can it be used." Give Lotus credit for making lightweight, raw cars in the past, but give them even more credit for making a new formula. Anytime you make a new formula people don't have the pots and pans to cook with it yet. We need time.

that was only one or 2 reviews and I think the same car - it may have just needed fluid and the reviewer before had boiled it.... Andrew Frankel who I really respect didnt mention it. He did mention the shift, but only saying 'to him' it wasn't as good as the Porsche. For me - when I drove a Cayman, I found the shift a bit rubbery, and the Evora much more mechanical - like my Exige. It doesn't like being rushed, but once you accept that, then you drive appropriately.
Loads of people track Exige V6's with that gearbox, and rarely complain about it...

Agreed, can’t compare a GT4…. what nexts a 296 Ferrari!
More a 718 S comparison surely?

Agreed further. My real point was that if you gave a GT4 lap time and an Emira Sports/Goodyear lap times only two things can happen. The lap times are similar so then you need to shut up. The GT4 is way faster, then why are you going on and on and on about two cars that have no business being compared especially when you are a race car driver. It's just silly.
