emira steering wheel button group buy

I just got my order confirmation from the seller through by email - on this it doesn't mention anything about them being second-hand. So the web page was changed after this. Maybe I got lucky and got the last set of new ones? I will see when they arrive and let you know.
To be honest even if they are second hand the current touch sensitive ones are annoying me so much that I would be OK (if not exactly happy) with that. Fed up of having to look away from the road wondering why the controls aren't working as I have inadvertently swiped on it.
They sell old ones and new ones for different price in China, however the stocks that these vendors get do come in both new and used as a bulk so its pure luck. Vendors in China do take the time to separate them for the Chinese market because they can sell them as discount retail price, the oversea importers are unlikely to pay for that.

My key clusters that I ordered on the 20th arrived today, quicker than I had expected arriving in only 9 days rather than the quoted 4-6 weeks.

The parts look new but they could be used as they are in perfect condition there’s no way to tell. I did note that they both had a manufacturing date of 2022 so I suspect they are used or at the best new old stock.

I followed chirowolf’s excellent guide on how to fit these – here.

I didn’t disconnect the battery or the airbag whilst doing this as I didn’t want to upset the EMU and have to reset it. I did cover the airbag in a cloth once it was off the wheel to ensure it wouldn’t get inadvertently shorted out. With the airbag still connected and dangling off its wires there's room to remove everything else.

Watch the video carefully when he takes the airbag off for the location of the two correct holes to use - surprisingly there's a lot of different holes on the steering wheel and it’s easy to try to use the wrong one, they are on the side of the wheel not behind or under it - the 'spring' you press back against is obvious when you have the right place. I spent 15 minutes in the wrong place. I used an allen key here instead of a pick.

The inner surround comes off easily with some wiggling. The key clusters themselves are held in by friction and not any catches or latches - pull them steadily away from the wheel to get these off, I found it was easiest to get a flat blade screwdriver under the outside lip of the key clusters and gently pry them up away from the wheel to get them started.

Once I had located the correct hole the whole procedure took less than 5 minutes end to end (…that’s what she said).

The buttons are working perfectly and look great I think. So much less annoying that the touch sensitive ones that I kept accidently swiping on.

I also learnt that the horn goes off not only when you press it – but when you pull it towards you, so numerous times whilst I was trying to pull the airbag off – no doubt impressing my neighbours!

Is this group buy still happening? I would love a set!

Snap! Also ordered on the 20th and received today.

I did query with the seller about the “second hand” change on the listing. They said they were sending me new ones and they do look perfect.

Couple of additional fitting tips:

If you have the service notes, ignore them.
Do not remove the small torx screws. They’re not holding the switches in place, they’re holding them together. You will discover this when they fall apart as you try to take them out! (VOE)
The new switches are a different construction and don’t have the screws at all.

For anyone who can’t find the hole 😁 :

My 6mm punch was perfect.

It doesn't look like the group buy is still happening. The original poster hasn't replied back here in a month and the last post was to say they couldn't get new buttons as everywhere they tried the button sets were on back-order - see here.

Looks like the aliexpress link 404s now.

This is what I ordered & the page is working for me - you need to make sure you order both left and right sides by clicking the picture/icon.

Maybe it is blocked if you order from the US?

Note this page does say "used" now.

So I did a VPN for UK and it worked. Seems they are just 404ing traffic from America.

if you plan on ordering ill give you my hard earned pesos for a set.
If they are 404ing America I'm not sure they would even try to ship to us. We might need an intermediary in Europe or something to put it in a new box and send across the pond.
