Forever cars

Same here. I got mine new in 2011 and don't think I could ever bring myself to sell it.

I love my Opel GT Roadster to bits, I've now owned it for nearly 9 years and still haven't found another car that speaks to me in the same way. It's definitely my forever car.

The Emira will be my excuse to put less kilometers on my GT, as parts are mostly unavailable now and it's a car from 2008 nevertheless.

Most people tend to think it's a comfy cruiser, but it has aluminium double wishbone suspension front and rear, a 51:49 weight distribution and weighs in at 1380 kg with a full tank of gas and some of my stuff (jacket, some tools and a blanket) behind the seats.

To be fair, my car has a fully built engine (320 ps, 460 nm), different brakes, wheels, clutch, flywheel, exhaust etc., the car in its original form was nice but a far cry from what it has become over time.

The car has a DeMan Motorsport 4.5L stroker and 2-5 gears shortened. It makes 570ish HP and 450ish TQ at the engine. Pulls in gear similarly if not a little quicker than my former 458 Italia.
Awesome! What gear kit did you use and what speed does it hit in 2nd? Normally I think it is around 86mph?

MY FOREVER... f430... Had for 8 years. Boyhood dream come true (although technically speaking boyhood dream was 355) but I consider this a better option as I have put 18k on it with little fuss.
My wife gave me the final push to actually buy it. We then used it as our wedding car and have enjoyed driving it around wales/France /Germany. It still demands attention even though its 16 years old, timeless styling, sounds epic, power is perfect for not dying, and handling is great without doing everything for you! Stereo makes the KEF sound epic though😜.

Very nice. How bad are the maintenance / running costs?

I have been pleasantly surprised by them.
I have a local Indy guy who has looked after it for last 6 years. Service every year... £500ish. Some suspension stuff... Springs/bushes etc. Speak £2k one year. But that's been the biggest spend.
Looking at a new cluch coming next year probably... After allowing some guy to valet Park it who rode the clutch horrendously... Never again!

Clutch must be a big and $$$ job?

No not the FD RX7, the blue '00 Tundra in background. Dont see ever getting rid of it because it will be too expensive to replace it and its such a good vehicle. First year for Tundra so got to be collectors item by now. :p

My first forever car was a 1991 Honda CRX, I was about 23 at that time and loved it. Had to sell it because the repairs where getting too expensive and my job demanded a reliable car that I could put lots of KM's on. Definitely should have kept it.

Now my 1977 Esprit S1 is what I concider the forever car at the moment. Fully restored, nearly down to nut and bolt level. It's not 100% original anymore (which is a good thing if you actually want to drive it). But I really adore it.

But then, the Elan Sprint is catching up to her status quickly, but I just bought it a few months ago and didn't have a chance to drive it much yet.

I am considering an Elan Sprint. I think they may be a bit of an undiscovered bargain at present 😍

That was her on the way back from Spain where I picked it up.

@Leonard Do it! Super rewarding driving experience. Feels "full on" at legal speeds and is just lovely. Bargain - I don't know. The good examples start becoming expensive, but I like to think of them going up in the future. Have to think that in fact to justify the decision.

That is lovely 🥰
Compare it to an equivalent 911 and they look pretty cheap! Seems a nice one can still be had for circa 50k to 60k gbp
Proper performance classic. Enjoy 🙌

Give it time and you will come back full circle to an Emira. 😂
If Lotus would have honoured my deposit date for an i4 Base I'd defo still be in 😊 Going to be a great car with a few mods, that make sense at the lower price

Why are your headlights up with the lights off? This is mine.
