Paperwork submitted to MT DMV late April, still waiting on the title to arrive. Anyone know what is a ballpark timeframe before I try to escalate things?

Haven't done this, but is this for tax purposes like most people do with supercars worth 500k or more? Can you tax deduct, or have to have a business or LLC in Montana?

Montana will allow you to create a LLC very easily there, which is why a lot of people do that. From what I hear they are cracking down the the people using this method to dodge taxes. So its probably just going under extra scrutiny and will be done in due course.

Update: just got confirmation it’s registered, so I guess the answer is 7 weeks.

Not sure why it is taking so long, but Montana has begun asking to verify that you actually own property in the state.

Last update, the title finally arrived. It was issued 11 days after the reg, and looks like it took about 5 days to get through the mail. The big delay was apparently getting the registration done. (docs submitted end of April, reg was finally processed June 14)

That’s why we don’t have the Vermont tag loophole anymore.

You don’t have to “own” property in the state… you have to prove residency. Plenty of people rent and don’t own their homes.

If you have an out of state license they need two forms of proof of residency within Montana. Utility bills with a mailing address (that isn’t a P.O. Box), address where your business is located, etc… and you have to register your vehicle in person. The vehicle doesn’t have to be present, but you do.

We’re headed up there to do the registration next week. They’re booked two months out, but they take walk ins (you’ll wait a couple hours). Any tips would be appreciated.
