I got a V6 manual Emira several weeks ago; I am not sure hill hold assist is working at all?

From my understanding, from the manual and reading this forum, if I have clutch in and foot on brake, then when I release the foot brake the electronic hand brake is meant to come on for 2 seconds or until I apply throttle.

In normal driving I’m always on the biting point to hold the car so it’s not really an issue. But when I try to test it, the car never seems to hold, on any hill I immediately start rolling back once I lift off the brake.

Also, three times I’ve had the car seem to unexpectedly brake as I pull away but this has only happened on a flat road, possibly I just stalled the car but I’m sure I’ve seen the handbrake light flicker when this happens.

I’m not sure what to make of all this.

Does the handbrake light come on when hill-hold is active?

Is there a setting that turns off hill-hold assist that I am missing?

What type of steepness of hill does hill-hold need to activate?

When on a hill (needs to be kinda steep, little hills tend not to trigger the auto hood), do you have the car in 1st gear? If so, it should hold for 2 seconds. It doesn’t hold when the gear is in neutral

Thanks for the reply.

Car is in first ready to pull away. The hills I've tested on are steep enough for the car to start rolling backwards immediately but admittedly not really steep. I can see if I can find a really steep hill somewhere and try the test again.

Just re-reading the manual and I can see that on the images of the tour and sports main dash panel there's a square, green auto-hold icon, although this is not mentioned anywhere in the text. I have never seen this illuminate.

Mine sometimes works and sometimes doesnt backing into the garage with a slight incline. Its random. Not sure on steeper inclines as it also seems intermittent.
There is no light (on the manual v6) that comes on like in other cars to say its working/active. I dont believe you can turn it off or would have.

I think that is an automatic car in manual mode in 3rd gear. I had to go check. Never noticed that light on my manual car.

I assume it is a thing on the Emira - at least according to the manual and also the other threads on here about the opposite problem of their hill-hold assist not releasing.
It’s just a feature normally found on auto’s so wouldn’t have expected it on a manual…. Might have to have a play tomorrow and see
