How good will the Emira's gain in value be?

I have no interest in the depreciation - I first looked at the photos back in September 2021 (I know this because I saved them to my Dropbox account) - and as of October 2024 it appeared in my garage (It's not been out much due to the weather!)

The person who owns my Emira after me will be prising the keys out of my cold dead fingers.

I can assure you -I won't give a f... 😉

While sentimentally I can agree with you. That kind of only continues to hold true as long as the Emira is positioned to be unique in the marketplace now and in the future.

If we are to compare the Emira to something like a Corvette. (pricing wise at least is closer than a 911). I'm sure there are many corvette owners that will buy the Corvette that's right for them, at the right time. But, how of those buyers in say... 7-10 years when a NEW corvette is available will stick it out and not swap in for the new thing? I would guess the minority, even as that ownership group ages.

I know not every car owner is the same, and also not all car communities. But, just because you are putting depreciation out of your head for your peace of mind, doesn't mean that others should not talk about it openly, frankly, and with consideration.

I understand that it's very hard as a car enthusiast to not see leeches and people who are buying special model cars just for speculation. I don't think anyone here is trying to do that, or trying to whip people up into a bad faith belief. While I personally will want to enjoy my Emira for as long as possible, and I do rarely move around between cars, as I grow sentimental, or at least pot-committed to them. I can't ignore the possibility that some short coming, or some exciting new opportunity may present itself that has me entertaining swapping cars. In that event, where would I stand in terms of equity and values is an important factor towards where I can go next.

Ultimately, if you aren't interested in these discussions, just don't read them. No one is here to tell you that your version of ownership or enjoyment is wrong. However, adding 'two cents' to say the conversation is meaningless... at least to you, kind of implies the inverse.

Hmm - wasn't expecting that reaction 😂

I didn't say I wasn't interested in the discussion - I wouldn't be here if that was the case.
Nor did I say the conversation is meaningless - perhaps I should have started with the term 'It doesn't bother me'.

And by that I don't mean I'm loaded, so I don't care if I lose £50k (because I'm not!) - I simply meant that I've waited for 3 years for the Emira and I'm pretty sure I'll never sell it. That's because I'm 'that kind of buyer' - in that I have a (bad) habit of keeping things.
The Emira is sat next to my last car, which I bought 14 years ago - and I have no intentions of ever selling that either.

I looked at the depreciation aspect before I bought (and the car market is in turmoil - at least in the UK) and generally thought stuff it - we're here for a good time, not a long time, so ordered it anyway.

I'll stick my neck out here - but I think if any of us were to take the depreciation too seriously, certainly at the point of ordering, then we simply would never press the 'Buy it Now' button.

I think you misread my sentiment - I certainly wasn't criticising the thread 👍🏻

Emira V6 has all the markers to be a future modern classic:
-Looks
-Sound
-Rarity
-6 Speed
-Low maintenance
-Last of the line/no replacement
-Low entry cost
I’ve been fortunate, but some may argue the low maintenance point. Also not sure that a low entry cost increases chances of being a future classic. I agree with the rest of your points.

If you compare a Lotus to any other mid engine car, then yeah, it's simple and reliable. Compared to a Toyota Camry, despite sharing the same engine, not so much.

My previous 2 cars gained value over my ownership. 2008 Evo X bought in 2015 for $23k and sold in 2023 for $28k. 2023 Supra 3.0 MT bought for $57k MSRP and traded in for $61k. The actual gain is less because of the mods, restorations, taxes and fees.

I doubt my Emira can gain any value over the sticker price since its already expensive (mine is $110k), but I think it will keep its value over time due to its uniqueness.

I don't know about you, but when I see the thread entitled "How bad will the Emira depreciation be?" pop up from time to time on this Forum, I take this and some of the comments in the thread, as being too negative and focused on the short term. I know I know; it's a neutral title so I'm likely overly sensitive. However I really like my Emira, as do others who see and ride in it. I think it deserves more praise. Sure, it got off to a less than stellar launch, with production delays and some quality control issues. However those can be expected with a lower production-run vehicle and the issues seem to have been largely ironed out over time, resulting in some owners like me (driving the "second generation" V6) not experiencing any vehicle problems. No, even these newer builds aren't perfect, however unless you're talking about a Lexus/Toyota or Acura/Honda vehicle, most other vehicle manufacturers have their fair share of quality control issues. That said, read the reviews on the Lexus LS 500 for the past few years...

IMO the Emira:

1. LOOKS FANTASTIC and if nothing else, all reviewers seem to agree on that.
2. HANDLES "LIKE A LOTUS" so it maintains the Lotus reputation for cornering and that old-fashioned more raw-feeling true sport car drive.
3. Is a readily-usable "daily driver" with its enhanced interior, plentiful options (for Lotus) and wider stance.
4. May appreciate over time, with the purported advent of electric vehicles (now delayed, soon to be replaced with hybrids?) and due to #1 and #2 above. Moreso if the Emira has a limited shelf-life and Lotus/Geely stops production in the next couple years.
5. Provides (a.) a mid-engine design (which others have), (b.) the choice of a manual transmission (which few have), and (c.) double-wishbone suspension (which very few have), and (d.) it's not as heavy (lighter than many of its competitors), all of which contribute to #2 above. Those 4 attributes (a. to d.) may not be together anywhere else in one vehicle, other than the Emira?

While no one can predict the future with certainty, my money is on the Emira doing well in the long term. Let's be more optimistic, shall we?
I agree with all of your points netsinah! During the late 90s a friend introduced me to the NSX. I have always been a car guy and fell for the NSX platform. I have owned 4 NSXs across the years and never lost money on any NSX buy. In searching for my next car I saw my first Emira at a local Cars and Coffee. Loved the look and learned quickly the drive and ride is just fantastic. I am not ready to do Hybrid (NSX). I remain committed to the ICE feel and sound. I purchased my Emira in September, 24’. This car has a strong NSX like feel. A pleasure to drive and a real head turner. The most important this for us owners is to just enjoy the “ride”.
