i4 Insurance

coming out at £1025
Similar to what I got from AIB. I'm going to hit up Manning, Adrian Flux and Lockton tomorrow. Equally, I don't want to commit too soon if there could be better deals out there once the i4 lands with more underwriters.

Nothing back from Adrian Flux yet (they're always recommended but not come through for me previously). Lockton was £1500! Best so far is Manning at £950 with £850 excess and a limit of 3,000 miles. They do allow you to upgrade the mileage mid-term if needed though. Nothing new on the search engines.

At least now I have a semi-reasonable price pegged in from Manning but I think I'll bide my time for a week or so before committing.

Out of interest, how are you dealing with no claims discount?
I've just had the thought that whereas I have the full 9+ years NCD for my daily I won't have any for the Emira. Of course the no claims could be transferred to the Emira and take the no no-claims hit with the cheaper to insure car, or another thing I may look into is whether I can get a decent multicar deal from one of the providers (the daily's renewal date actually will probably work out ok for doing that).

NCD is a pain. My NCD is currently on our daily with a term that runs to October so I think I'll have to cancel that policy and switch it to my wife's name. Then I can transfer my 9+ years NCD to the Emira. Not ideal. The guy at Manning did suggest they might be able to honour my NCD on the Emira policy in parallel with the existing one for a period of time so that could help simplify things if I go with them.

To add to the melee, we have an old Fiesta that my kids used to drive. That's currently in my wife's name so we'd need to sell it or insure it without an NCD.

Had a similar quote from Manning, Tyler a helpful chap but the underwriter KGM has awful reviews so put me off a bit, spoke at length to Admiral today as they only list the V6 so I have now given them all the info for the I4 and chap said he’d ring me with an updated price when they have put the car into thier system (V6 quote coming out pretty much the same price as Manning) but think I’d opt for Admirial if possible….

I only have 1 years NCB following my accident in July 22, but the quotes I got for the V6 were coming out about £650- £750 Via Admiral. Max 6000 miles. They say it helps if you add your wife or partner and if you own/ insure a couple of other cars In the family.

I’ve got a trade policy and no claims for the 15 years I’ve had it

I am going through limited or no no claims with admiral currently. As I have been a company car driver for over 25 years Admiral do not recognise my company car driving clean history. That said when I spoke to them they applied a new insurer discount and gave me the equivalent of 5 years no claim discount and I ended up with a quote of £635 for a McLaren 650s. When I quoted originally online with my company car insurance of 15 years no claims it was £535 so £100 more. My original quote with them for the Emira v6 was £640 so I assume it would be a similar increase.

I have to say, I'm a bit wary of Admiral, Which's review of them has a customer claims related rating that places them 25th out of 25 companies.

Tyler a helpful chap but the underwriter KGM has awful reviews
Also spoke to Tyler and got offered the KGM policy however I didn't get as far as checking their reviews - not good. Admiral could be another option if they get their act together in time but the review above isn't great either.

I must admit, I usually insure based on the cheapest premium for the cover I want and don't look at the reviews too much. I've only ever once needed to make a claim but I appreciate that if the worst happened you don't want endless grief.

It makes you think you don’t know what to think! 🤷‍♂️

Given Admiral the details of the I4 and is now on thier system to quote although they list a ‘V6 2.0 359….’so another call to tell them it’s an I4 360 so hopefully these details will be updated by Weds they say, works out £200 ish cheaper than the 3.5 V6 at the moment so hopefully they’ll keep the same quote for an I4 that they offered for a 2.0 V6! wish it was a 2.0 V6!! £806 for the year me and wife driving 3k miles so not too bad…..Collect Friday! 😳

Given Admiral the details of the I4
Sterling effort, doing Admiral's job for them. So it seems that the quotes we were getting were actually legit but the labelling was wrong. I still see LOTUS EMIRA FIRST EDITION V6 359 in the policy wording but the details say 1991cc. Going via Meerkats, I get £925 with £700 excess which is the best so far. It's also based on 4,000 miles which is a bit less restrictive than Manning. I will give them a call tomorrow to check that the quote is definitely for the i4 and what their stance is on trackers. I had to state I had a tracker to get the policy to show up in the search but I can't find anything that mandates it in their quote.

In other news, I tried a few other smaller brokers who allegedly specialise in Lotus insurance. So far I'm waiting for call backs from all of them! I can only assume that they don't need to business or they already know they can't offer cover so can't be bothered to call back!

That’s the one they list the V6 359 but the chap reassured me it was the one I want to insure, suppose me being a car man waffling on about how many cylinders, cubic capacity and duel clutch goes in one ear and out of the other with insurance admin staff!! Asked for an email stating the exact model in writing, really wouldn’t need any mither with a claim if they said you’ve not got the car we underwrote mate! If you tell them it has as alarm and immobiliser it comes down a bit aswel (presume the car has?! no idea!) Got the tracker in mine and seems to be a must for the insurers I’ve spoke to

Hi. This set of notes has been very helpful. Particularly given my Lotus dealership has stayed with the story that "no-one is having this issue" and Im the first person to tell them about it........ My I4 also imminent arrival. Tried NFU mutual this morning as they offer a decent bespoke service and they dont even have EMIRA on their database !! Re-tried Go Compare and other than the misbadged V6 part - was also able to get a bunch of quote in the GBP 600 range (putting in a high excess / full no claims / no tracker / +20 years driving / age 50 for myself and my wife as named driver)... most likely going to use Admiral as also am re-insuring another car at the same time so multi deal gets 5pct plus reduction. Therefore hoping 550 or so for the Emira fingers crossed. Keen to hear any other feedback.

The chap at your dealership must have worked at the post office previously.

Hi - I'm surprised you couldn't get a quote from NFU as I'm insured with them for V6 auto. Problem with NFU you have to go through an NFU agent so I suppose it depends on your local agent etc.

Just gone through the Admiral website. Still listed as a V6, but 2.0 so that part is right. 5000 miles PA, 1000 of which on business. Added NCB protection too, and just over £800. I think the benchmark so far.

You guys are doing better than me on price. I'm around the £925 mark with Admiral. I think the 3 points I picked up in 2021 are still hurting me. I'm still surprised it's taking so long for the i4 to appear on underwriters' books. Hopefully come renewal next year things should be a lot easier.

Spoke again to Admiral again……today to explain its not a V6 it’s inline 4 hence I4 etc etc, keep speaking to differant people but they seem to understand and said he’s trying to get it rectified and call me tomorrow, collecting Friday so better be quick!
