I4 Vs V6

I am on my fifth week of AMG Emira (400 hp US spec) ownership, traded in my 21 Evora GT manual for it. I am very happy with my choice; I like it much better than I thought I would. I was concerned the shifting would be too slow based on the two-year-old reviews, but it isn't slow at all, not as fast as my previous 911 GT3, but fast enough for me to enjoy it!

Yep, not PDK quick but quick enough.

Both are amazing, if you are tracking you might be better to lean to the i4, with DCT. As a fun car for twistys and spirited driving I'd prefer a manual .

(Behind a paywall for a little while, then opens up for free in a day or so I think. I have not seen it yet.)

Thanks for putting this side by side together. I have been waiting for some one to compare the two US Specs I4 vs. V6 Manual. Really nice review!! I have an i4 and purchased it for all of the reasons you highlighted in your video... sound, speed, and drivability. It is an incredible car and a an absolute blast to drive. Exceeded my expectations.

My friend with a V6 with sport suspension took my i4 for a weekend a few weeks ago and even keeping things easy since it's still under 1K miles. This is what he has to say and he can't wait to go back once it's broken in "i went down back road in the i4 that wouldn't be as fun in my car" "i'd say the i4 was more fun on very technical roads". He still prefers the V6 manual as it's more engaging for him.

Not my video, just something I found.

The video is interesting. Makes it quite clear the i4 is the much faster version. Even with the expensive V6 upgrades like the JUBU 460, I doubt the car can get close to the i4 performance figures. What's more the i4 does this with higher MPG and lower emissions. The result of an engine that's (2 decades?) newer.

Yet I still bought the V6 and I'm glad I did, though objectively it doesn't make sense. But I like the V6 howl that builds through the rev range (not a fan of the monotone i4 sound -however loud you make it with an open exhaust), and I like the (slow) manual gear box.

It comes down to what driving experience you prefer. Both engine options appeal to different audiences but both deliver on those individual preferences.

Nothing artificial about how it sounds on the i4.
Not into the exhaust sounds..... ever thought about an electric car???
Pops and bangs . . . Ever thought about a Citroen 2CV? Some of us are not fans of exhaust mods that only make more noise, not more horsepower. Manufacturers go to great lengths to tune their exhausts to optimize performance.

It’s the I4 for me. Same AMG powertrain as in my wife’s GLA 45 which is plenty quick, very comfortable and capable at 120+, and has been bombproof. Hauls ass when you want to, 30+ mpg at 80-90 mph.

With that said, I have a Cayman S (987.1 with 55,000 miles) 6-speed thats been my daily driver since 2008. Very comparable performance and can haul a ton of gear but not near the mpg of the Emira I4. If the budget was US $50,000, a low-mileage Cayman would be worth a look.

I am with you. I think the i4 sounds great as it is. There have been a couple of Mod suggestions on this thread. If anyone has made those mods and can post video of cold start or live drive sound for the i4, I would be interested in hearing the enhancement. Maybe they have already been posted somewhere in the forum.

I dont care what it sounds like, I care what it drives like.
Sound, get a V8
Drive, get a Lotus
The rest fall somewhere in between

from another thread... I wonder what this will be...

Facelift 2027 Lotus Emira I4 with power increase
