After much deliberation I've notified Lotus to cancel my Emira order. It wasn't a decision taken lightly, but I have no regrets and believe I have made the right choice for me. I was never in the market for the Emira, but when it was launched I got caught up in all the hype and placed an early deposit, but what I was really in the market for at the time was a convertible - specifically a Boxster 718 GTS 4.0, that was my first choice. My thinking is that the Boxster isn't getting any younger and is due to be changed to an all electric model in a couple of years, so I really need to enjoy it now. So I've placed a deposit on a really nice lightly used one. My thinking is to enjoy this for a while and if the Emira lives up to the hype I can always place a deposit again for a new one in a couple years when the waiting lists and part supply issues have died down. If the Emira was available as a soft top I would have placed a deposit for that instead, but it wasn't to be.

If anyone has a Nimbus, V6, FE, manual, tour, red leather and red callipers on order, you may jump up the queue. I was told September build.

I cant really fault you, that was exactly where my money was going before I put my deposit down on the Emira.
Enjoy the open top motoring and I'd like to see a pic if you have one as really love the Boxster 😁
Enjoy the ride.

Exactly me twelve months ago ,couldn’t decide emira or gts boxster placed deposit on the emira 8 July and told car would be available spring summer 2023 ,also placed deposit Porsche gts boxster told 4 th quarter 2023 ,thought ok a nice spacing between the two ,looked forward to 2023: went to launch of emira in sept at rybrook specialist cars in my evora and spoke to sales marketing teams and questioned gavin on the differences between the evora I have and the upcoming emira .To his credit he was as honest as I could hope for and explained the cars would be identical mechanically but obviously different to look at and drive ,when I asked him to expand on that info and explained that my evora has had circa 4k spent on its gear box clutch etc by a well know rally specialist ( it was always reluctant to engage reverse ,the clutch was long in travel and heavy ,but was now transformed in its a delight to change gear ) He smiled knowingly and reiterated that the emira will be the same as ever but I may wish to wait for the auto to experience a different gear box: I took my deposit off and here we are summer 2023 ,my evora still a joy and my Porsche gts boxster being delivered ,in build at moment ,September , so third quarter 2023 and as I specked it with all I require at 6k cheaper then the emira ,what a slick procedure from start to finish.l have followed the forum and lack of info from lotus would have driven me mad ,Porsche by contrast emailed every month from September last year and are now delivering a quarter before promised on a car manual 4 litre colour spec no quibble -well impressed a very smooth transaction

Bit of an insight 😲

Snap, at least I have my M3 convertible to enjoy the summer, trouble is it’s that hot I don’t have the roof down for fear of grilling myself.. 😀
Get up earlier! 😁
I was chilling outside at 7am this morning wishing I was out in a convertible 😍

Probably the smarter choice! The Emira FE is purely an emotional choice for me. Hope you enjoy the Boxster and maybe we'll get a targa Emira one day!

Agree with all of this. I always wanted an Exige, my car of choice in Project Gotham Racing and the early days of Xbox live. I am finding it very hard not to buy one now the Emira is Oct delivery (plus spending too much time refreshing the used Lotus page on Bell & Colvill’s website), they current have a white 380 and a gorgeous yellow Final Edition. The price of Lotus ‘FE’s appears to pretty much match right now.

I still want the Emira but have a nagging feeling I want the Exige more. It’s all down to the test drives now..

Useful to know - thanks for sharing... (y)

had circa 4k spent on its gear box clutch etc by a well know rally specialist ( it was always reluctant to engage reverse ,the clutch was long in travel and heavy ,but was now transformed in its a delight to change gear )
I imagine some people may want some further details from you in a few months time..... but lets hope not too many, but its the same gear box at the end of the day and perhaps his silence and grin said it all.
There will no doubt be a few who have taken more options that the Emira, punting here and there, its normal, especially if you have the money to do it and hence not have all your huevos in one basket, but the real potential for drop outs, rather than the 0.5-1.5% we may see on here, will be after the test drives.
I personally dont think Lotus have a huge risk for drop outs and while I see the attraction of the GTS hard or soft, I, being shallow, could not get passed/past the 7 odd year old design inside and out of the 718, although the engine (more than the gear box IMO) is a head turner for sure and the fact you know it will "never" go wrong... But I have been there and done it and I want something stunning.
If I went porsche again, it would have to be the 911 992 and soon the updated 992.2, inside and out I think is a classic piece of design, just a bit boring to drive, unless you get the NA engine or you have a younger michelle pfieffer sat next to you, either way.

Literally my spec, other than suspension, which at this point of order I’d prefer to change lol

Sounds like a few people starting to give up on an emira now?.
Pretty much expected considering reservations are refundable up until an actual order is placed in most parts of the world.

IMHO, Had all reservation deposits been non-refundable the 10,000+ “supposed” deposits would be a lot closer to 5000 and no one would be worrying about getting a car in 2023. Case in point, 2 dealers in my area with roughly the same allocation, the one taking refundable deposits has over 60, the one taking non refundable deposits has less than half that amount. At least those were the numbers told to me in March.

If the deposits would have been non refundable I expect the demand to be in the low thousands if that , they don’t exactly have a track record on delivering the product as stated !
