Insurance quote: 4.8x the price of my 2007 Exige S

I’m around £500 but I pay £1080 as I’ve put my 25year old son on the policy

I guess the true question is what are one's limits of coverage? Most states except Michigan seem to be between $10-$50k and some up to $100k. I assume how much one pays also is determined in how much one is covered.

The amount of liability coverage makes a difference but not that much. Most of the fee are based on age, driving record and the value of the car. I think the difference between legal minimum for CA and their max available coverage amount is like under $300 a year.

Midwest $748 every six months. $500 deductible with no mileage restriction $250 comprehensive
Location, history, and age of driver will have a huge impact on numbers
The one nice thing about my State Farm policy is I can drop the policy down to just comprehensive coverage in the winter months when not using the car. November to April coverage is only about $200 for the entire time period. Can not drive the car during those months but fully insured if the house burns down or my lift collapses or something.

If you have an Emira, why would you ever drive something else if you don't have to? :) It's now my daily, and I use my big car for family road trips, but the Emira for everything else.
My 987.1 Cayman S is the “beater” grocery getter. A Cayman can haul a ton of stuff.

Currently talking with Progressive because their website didn't have Lotus as an option in the quote dropdown. Now I'm on hold because they can't even pull up my car by the VIN... :sneaky:

And they just said they won't cover my car. They just straight up won't insure a Lotus Evora. When I asked why and told her I had friends with their Emira insured through Progressive, she said something about it having to be +/- 2 years old.. Wtf?

Oh, that sucks. Progressive and Geico refused to insure mine. Progressive because they don't insure Esprits, they're too old, and Geico said they don't insure those cars.

When I called Progressive, and gave them my Emira VIN, it came up as a Lotus Esprit.
I did mine all online and before I pulled the trigger on buying one the estimate came in about $50 per 6 months less than when I purchased the car and then entered the new VIN number. I think that was because my estimate was for a 4cyl and I purchased the 6cyl.

But I had no trouble doing it all online for the Emira.

Same here. I did it through Progressive online for the quote, then called in to finalize and submit payment. I'm in Texas.

For those wondering about Grundy here is the acknowledgement wording which basically sums up the limitations of the policy:

"In consideration of the premium charged, it is hereby understood and agreed that any vehicle insured under this policy will be used for hobby purposes and exhibition and will not be used primarily for general transportation. It will not be used for backup transportation, or for errands, except for occasional pleasure use. It will not be driven to work or school or used for business or commercial purposes. The vehicle will not be used for towing, hauling or off-road use.

It is further understood and agreed that any vehicle insured under this policy will not be used to participate in any rally gymkhana, speed contest, race or timed event of any kind."

So basically it fits my use case and I assume most others on the forum. The bolded part at the bottom (their bolding not mine) is kind of broad but I asked about track days. I was told I would be covered to and from the track but not on the track which I think is pretty standard for car insurance. If anyone knows of a good track day insurance I would be interested. I don't have the time off from work for rallying but if you participate in that you may run afoul of that section as well.

That’s crazy. I’ve received quotes from Progressive before for the Evora - and they were reasonable too. I’ve also gotten quotes from Geico and State Farm, but they were insane - more than $3,000 which is 3X what I pay now.

Strange that everyone is saying progressive is the cheapest out of the big insurance companies, I added the emira to my insurance with my current model 3 performance and they want 2700 every 6 months versus State Farm quoting me 1800 and with lower deductible. It seems to pay to shop around periodically
