Hey! Iā€™ll try make this short but highly unlikely so prepare to read.

August 2024 I purchased a 3.5L V6 2023 plate with only 92 miles on the clock. It was a remote sale and got the car delivered via a trailer. I was told the car is perfect and there is nothing wrong with it. Once Iā€™d transferred half of the invoice I was told then that they had just discovered paint work bubbling on both the doors. Of course I was pretty disappointed and annoyed that it isnā€™t something that can easily be missed so felt misled.
I asked if there was any mechanical issues, electronic issues, technical issues, software issues, warranty claims or anything else I should know. Came back stating the car has a clean bill of health apart from the paintwork bubbling. I went ahead with the purchase.

Once the car was delivered the first thing I noticed was a yellow warning triangle stating the SOS system is unavailable - strange. Next time I drove it I tried to put on the air con but it wasnā€™t working. Or if it did only when on itā€™s highest fan speed, it was very sporadic and incredibly annoying but I knew the car was heading to my local dealership so it can get fixed then.

Along with the HVAC not working, SOS not available and paint bubbling other issues became apparent;
  • Navigation showed car still in Kent (Iā€™m in Scotland)
  • Radio not working.
  • Ticking sound from the engine
  • Steering feeling heavy and noisy
Then the car started to leak oil. That was the final straw so the car was brought to my local dealer 3 months after purchase. Car was there for 10 weeks and all the issues that I had discovered have been rectified.
  • New steering pump and belt
  • HVAC resistor, sensor and box
  • Software updates which fixed the navigation and radio
  • 2 new doors
Sadly Iā€™ve collected the car in a condition that I beyond ridiculous.
During repairs they noticed the boot light was not functioning and no power was getting to the multi plug. Digging deeper they discovered some wiring harness was broken that connected to the wiring loom further into the car. In the end after lifting the carpet to get to the depths of the car wiring they noticed my passenger area under the seat was soaking wet so now there is water ingress coming from somewhere. They carried out a wire repair so the boot light now works but now the frunk is stating itā€™s open when it was quite clear not. A strange one even for them I was told. Canā€™t get rid of the alert so when at 0mph it shows yellow for the frunk and the second I move the display shows red for the frunk and constantly beeps rapidly. The beeps are so uncomfortable to hear when driving and no-way to mute it. Quite unnerving really. The car is mechanically fine to drive but the electrical issues mean I donā€™t trust the car and along with the rapid loud beeping itā€™s pretty much undriveable.

The local dealer thinks the water ingress has led to various wiring issues and the only way to get to the bottom of it is to strip out the car and rewire it. Gutted. Of course at the same time find where the water is coming from.
At home the car was in the garage and driving only in dry weather days (yes, Scotland does have some šŸ˜…). Car spent 10 weeks outside and only then has it been discovered that water is leaking in somewhere.
Additionally due to the frunk supposedly being open the car locks and doesnā€™t beep meaning that the alarm and immobiliser arenā€™t working, not red flash to confirm like there should be.

Iā€™m going to be contacting the dealership I bought it from as this car is just growing arms and legs with issues. End of the day they sold me a car that had nothing wrong with it but clearly that wasnā€™t the case from the day I received it.
According to the Motor Ombudsman I need to give the dealership I bought it from one opportunity to fix the problems. If that means at least an entire re-wire then I doubt Iā€™ll be seeing it back this side of summer. I just want to reject it or get the car replaced with one that doesnā€™t have issues.

Has anyone had any similar issues? If so please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read my sob story.

You sound similar to another to another member on here(Orchardbike), who bought a car from Auto100. Theres a thread about that somewhere on here. Hopefully you are not another Auto100 customer.

It's a sad story- my condolences- especially on a "new" car.

if it's any consolation the issues your car came with were all known warranty issues. the wiring harness issue is unfortunately kind of the worst case scenario for this water ingress issue. I think there is at least one other forum member that had to go through a full wiring harness replacement like you're looking at.

and not to add fuel to the fire, but it's hard to see how any competent dealer would miss these known issues. at least you can get fixed under warranty.

Mine was completely re-wired. There was a subsequent wire failure and Lotus bought it back. Corrosion of the wiring terminal is seemingly, and unfortunately, quite common.
