Now $105k in the USA. I’m not seeing the value

I can only imagine how painful warranty claims will be for owners, especially outside of the UK. One of my biggest fears concerning Emira ownership is something going wrong early on and it sitting at the dealer for months while Lotus drags their feet.
Welcome to the C8 Corvette owner's club. I don't have one, but spending an hour reading about all the problems they are having sends shivers up my spine. There are over 2600 posts in the C8 General/C8 Problems section of the forum. Yes, GM makes more Corvettes, but dang, having to wait months to have the transmission replaced must be frustrating as heck.

Is it worth it? I have challenge for people that have the audacity to even ask the question. Provide just one example of another car that offers the same qualities.

parameters are listed below.

1. Manual transmission
2. Mid engine
3. Available in the USA
4. Affordable maintenance
5. Arguably the best looking car on the road.
6. Superb handling

kind of stupid I know because nobody can name one. Save the tired design of Boxster and Cayman.

Early 1990's MR2 Turbo or Acura NSX, had both.

Ironically, my very first two cars were MR2s. I had a black 1987 that didn't even have power steering but was a total blast. Then I got a 1992 Turbo T-Top that was an amazing car. I'm still not really sure why I sold it which might be why I have a deposit in for an Emira :)

All joking aside, @Green's points are very valid. Sure, you can go faster in a C8 'Vette but they aren't problem-free and I see them every day out on the roads so they no longer have that 'wow' factor for me. Add that to the fact that there is no manual and the Emira is far prettier to look at and I think it easily has value at $105K. If you don't think so then no big deal, buy something else.

I completely agree with @Green, however he said list 1 and I listed 2 that I feel fit the parameters. He didn't say you had to be able to by them new now. :ROFLMAO: I too have had a Vette and agree with you, there kind of a dime a dozen along with everybody's go to Porsche's, but to me the Vette is a go fast straight car and I can't wrap my head around the looks of the C8, kind of cheaply ugly to me. I have been waiting for a car like the Emira ever since I sold my 1991 1/2 MR2 Turbo like you.

Porsche just announced their drastic MY2024 price increases:

$6-20k price increase
4RS is just shy of $15k more... All other 718 models are now $6k more.
3RS is near $20k more, GT3 is $16k more and the Carrera T is $10k more.

Well screw it then, guess I’ll see if Lotus has anything; always wanted one of those.

Yeah I heard your Porsche dealer only emails you once a year with a copy pasta template email and they haven’t even figured out regulatory
Porsche? Is that the SUV manufacturer that all the Karens and Soccer moms in my neighborhood drive slow to and from Target every day?

That is exactly how I view Porsches nowadays. I see at least 5-10 every day whenever I decide to go to the office. Nothing to detract from the quality of the car itself but it's just way too run-of-the-mill around here for me to drop $100K+ on one. Whenever I hear people say the Cayman is better than the Emira I just pull up a side-by-side picture of them. No comparison whatsoever in that arena.

Agree. Porsche makes a quality automobile. It’s also a common automobile. Didn’t used to be, now it is. Lotus being a bit more boutique may have some personality traits but those can be overlooked. Lotus may want to appeal to a mass market, and with their style they will appeal, but they won’t get mass market deliveries and couldn’t manufacture anyway. I’m happy with Evora numbers at 500-600 per year. A manual seat adjustment and 3 color choices. The Evora GT was the same price in 2021 that the Emira is now with a very dumbed down interior.

I think it's Ferrari you're thinking of with the "copy pasta" .. great autocorrect.
For the US type approval, that's probably the one of the most telling c-up's so far. Along with the consistent customer communications.
And I'm waiting for positive signs on I4 process!

For $110K+ price, I don't think anything should be "overlooked". Some may accept poor quality/manufacturing , yet for my hard earned dollars a $110K+ car should be pretty close to perfect, and function that way.

Obviously Lotus is trying to appeal to a mass market, yet they will quickly go down the drain if they put cars out with too many quality issues, especially given their tiny, almost non-existent dealer network. And they will return to the micro-niche manufacturer of 500 vehicles per year that some folks prefer, along with overlooking the Lotus "Personality Traits".

I would prefer to see Lotus excel in manufacturing and sell a top quality product that provides real competition to other sports cars makers. And is desired for more than it's good looks alone. Beauty only goes so far.....

Agree and I have aCayman GTS no comparison in looks

I'm not sure you saw the "copy and pasta" email to multiple people on here from Lotus sent by dealers. The subject line literally said something like "copy and paste this email...blah blah blah" and the dealers left it in the subject line.

The only issue with that in my eyes is they did not delete copy and paste. I mean did people expect that every dealer would write a personal letter for every order?
