📓 Journals People's reaction to your Emira

This prefix is only usable in the Lotus Emira Journals forum.
It depends on whether you're referring to 'The Fast Show' or 'The Sun' headline for the Versace shooting.
Well I was referring to The Fast show, I am not a Sun reader and that sounds like a very very ill judged headline.

No, nor am I but I do remember the fuss it caused at the time. I prefer your reference to The Fast Show.

Just last weekend I've had several sports motorbike riders give the thumbs up and nod, kids pointing going "whoa" and a few waves from Ferrari and Porsche drivers. Plus one extra special 'bogan' in a G80 M3 tailing and trying to drag race (ignorance is bliss). :ROFLMAO:

Latest overheard comment:

“Look at that Ferrari…………..wait, it‘s a LOTUS?!!”

I had a BMW M2 Competition before my Emira and I can tell you the reaction the Emira gets is very different to that!
People genuinely do let me out at junctions, make space on the motorway etc, stop to comment and have a chat, it's a really nice reaction. The other day, I also had a guy in a yellow S1 Elise practically climb out of his car to shout "F*ck yes mate" at me as he drove past me (if you're on this forum, thanks mate you made my day!) :giggle:

Just back from a 2600 mile, 5 country tour of Europe and had only the most positive reactions. People pointed, ran towards, photographed, elbowed others, thumbed up, gathered around, shouted complements, asked questions and more, in France, Germany, Austria, Lake Bled - Slovenia and Dolomites - Italy.

The only annoyances were local youths, in previous decade BMWs, trying to provoke a race.

Driving to collect our velar from the garage yesterday in the emira, 2 mechanics run out from the neighbouring MOT shop..."we were debating what is it. He reckoned a Ferrari and I said a McLaren" - hearty conversation ensued about the car, the engine, etc etc...suffice to say they were fans.

This was a follow up to a supermarket shop where a Mum came over and rather gushingly complimented us on our choice of vehicle...full of questions and she couldn't stop looking as we loaded the car and drove off.

Seems to receive favourable reactions everywhere we go - much more so than any of the TVRs, Noble and Aston I have had in the past

I had quite a lot of negative reaction from Emiraphiles when then say I had stealth PPFd my red Emira! :D

Wait until they hear the new exhaust system.🫢

Car reaction has only been positive apart from that. Lots of quizzical looks at nobody knows what it is. I am pretty sure I would not even know what it was if an Emira was coming straight towards me.
what about the exhaust system? any update?

Few people taking photos and video on M6 north today and a couple lads in white GR Yaris giving the thumbs up. I had a passenger who is know to be a bit travel sick so was talking it easy :) #Forthedriversanddogs

"Puppers's reactions to your Emira"! 😍

I think you're the first forum member to post photos of their furry friend riding shotgun; love it!! 🤩

Hello,

First time Lotus owner here, picked up my new Emira on Friday! Was hoping for a nice sunny day, but the UK weather never disappoints! Weather aside all I can say is WOW! If you are in the queue debating whether to cancel, don't do it! The car is amazing. Hopefully this isn't a curse, but 320 miles later it's running like a dream and I can report zero issues!

In terms of people's reactions - it's fair to say it's not a car for shrinking violets! The attention it garners is unreal! From passing motorists to pedestrians and in general anyone who see's it!

Needed to stop for fuel on Saturday at Leigh Delemere services between Bristol and Swindon and had my first Lotus owner to Lotus owner experience! A really nice chap came bounding over to me giving the thumbs up and explained he had an Elise S1 - really nice chap and if you are on the forum, hope to speak to you again in the future.

Have had my Emira FE for all of 4 days (and I haven't driven it today, [yet])

Day 1.
I brought the car straight home. I left it in the garage with the garage door open (not on purpose), so it was visible from the street. Aparently, some neighbors asked another neighbor what does [me] do, he has a lot of cars.

Nobody thought my Ford F150, Ford Bronco, Airstream 24x, and Polestar 2 qualified as a "lot of cars," but add the Lotus to the mix, and you get both wanted and unwanted attention.

Day 2.
I drove on some "famous" roads in SoCal and got a thumbs up from, surprisingly, the guys in muscle cars and classics. It is hardly scientific that classic owners like the Lotus, as that just might have been who was in the same area at the same time. It was early on a Sunday. I still thought that was cool.

Day 3.
I went from the Los Angeles to Coachella Valley (La Quinta, to be precise, for those familiar / Palm Springs area for those that are not).

I was approached by a motorcyclist at a gas station, who was excited to talk to me and tell me how much he liked the car. That guy said, "You just worked hard for that." Yeah, I did. Thanks for saying that. I thought he was cool.

On the ride over, a Tesla wanted to play. I obliged. I gave him the universe symbol for hanging loose. I got 2 flashes of his headlights in my rearview mirror.

Me and C8, which was also white with black accents, ran side-by-side for a bit, but at legal speeds.

I hate to admit it, but I love the attention (and even confusion) Lotus causes. I never got that in my Porsche GT4 or GT3, except from other GT4 and GT3 owners. I did get a lot of attention in the McClaren 600LT.

I now keep a GoPro on in the car to catch some of these moments while I look for a dashcam.

EDIT:
Day 4
The lady in the Trader Joe’s parking lot said “Nice car.” I said “thank you .” She said “Don’t be speeding now.” I said, “Too late.”

The Z06 on the way to dinner wanted to drag race. That’s a losing battle, but there was mutual respect shown.

Four days of ownership. Four days of love.

After spending some time visiting a local hilltop golf course, I encountered a couple of web photographers who showed up close to sunset intent on doing a Lambo shoot. Lively conversation ensued and they asked me if I wanted my car to be in the shoot. Of course! Drew a few spectators in the process. These are my pics, I'm sure their pics are much better (still awaiting final results)!

After 3 months, some of my favorite interactions.

Yesterday I'm parked on a street, texting in my parking spot. Police cruiser pulls up next to me, signals for me to put my window down. I obliged. Officer says, "Want to trade?"

Cars and Coffee, McLaren sent an employee with a new Artura to display. I checked it out, chatted with the rep a bit. Walked over to my car and a few minutes later the McLaren rep came over to look over the Emira. I said something to the effect of, "I'm not in the McLaren bracket yet". He said, "I probably shouldn't say this but honestly I'd rather have this".

Sitting on a stop light, I hear "Hey McLaren! Light 'em up!"

Pulled up to a place I had to run into for like 30 seconds. Girl in her 30s sitting on the front steps, said "Beautiful car". I said thank you, and walked inside. When I came back out, she said "I really love how the yellow stitching matches the yellow calipers. That was thought about." (Yep!)

Gas pump interaction, pulled next to a beater F350 towing a large cargo trailer. He said, "can I have 5 minutes in that thing? Please?" I said, "You're going to want more".

Construction worker somehow assumed it was more expensive than a Ferrari. He was surprised when I said much less.

Getting the car inspected, pulled into a Euro shop I trust (no Lotus dealers in my state). Another customer there asked if he could take some photos because he had never seen a Lotus in real life and it was "far more beautiful than the pictures do it justice, and it's really nice in the pictures". He pulled a DSLR out of his car and was shooting pics for about 10 minutes.

Guy on a bicycle in full riding kit rolls up next to my open window, "Just so you know, that's my dream car".

Constant compliments on Nimbus Grey.

Top 3 questions I get:
1. Is that thing fast? ("In the corners, yeah")
2. How much does it cost? ("About the same as a Corvette")
3. I'll paraphrase the language on this next one: Does that car get girls? ("Cars don't get girls")

In general, all interactions are really, really positive. The car brings a lot of joy. That was always the case with Elise / Exige but those are more toy like, I wondered if it would stay true for Emira and it has.

The attention the car gets is a tricky thing for me.

I guess I like the CAR getting attention, but I dont like attention to ME.

I like that people view it as a thing of beauty, but, I dont usually like being attributed with it.
Some would say I am lying, but, its the truth.

In other words, on most occasions, I don't want attention to me. I dont want to be "look at me".

I also don't like talking about it at gas stations and stuff, because, I am very intorverted.

(But, I guess its my fault to buy a car that looks like that).

However, I'll admit it: on some rare occasions I feel pretty cool in it.
Usually in fancy areas where people wont know me (other neighborhoods).

But I am overthinking. I need to be less self conscious about it..

After all, most people don't view me as a some douche in it, most people just seem to love and respect it.

I think its as pretty as a Ferrari (prettier actually) but somehow less ostentatious (mines nimbus).

The bottom line: It turns heads everywhere. And it seems to give a big dopamine spike to people.

So I think it truly brings joy to people just to see such a moving work of art.
