Those of you that are using radar detectors, I'm curious: (I'm in the United States, California)

1) What you are using or recommending?
2) How are you mounting the unit securely and powering it without cables getting in the way of your field of vision driving, etc?

Thanks!

I've used blend mounts in other cars, but it hangs too low for me in the Emira. I just use the suction cup that comes with the Escort and mount at the top of the windshield so the unit is actually above the mirror. No interference with vision at all. Never had a problem with the suction mount and now just using them on all my vehicles.

Edit: I just use a mirror tap to power the unit, so cable is barely visible.

I bought the Uniden R8 unit.

It comes with the mount to attach to the windshield, and is very strong.

I bought a cable extension, and snaked the cable under the headline, through and under the window seal and down the back of the B pillar. I used a plastic trim tool to pull up the panel and hide the cable behind. This way the cable isn't hanging directly from the outlet to the windshield.

I have a Uniden R7 and love it.
The Emira I bought has a USB plug integrated with the rear view mirror mount. I bought a USB power adapter and didn't have to run any cables. It was awesome.

I use the Uniden R8. right now, I use a tape mount, but will look into the blend mount (a bit spendy) Had always been a big Escort radar up to recently, but I hat subscription and to get full functionality the subscription is needed.

I use a Uniden R8 with a wiretap to the connection for the USB port in the mirror housing and a Stealth Mount to hang the detector. The nice thing about Stealth Mount is that you can easily pop the detector out if you don't want it left in plain sight while you are away or want to swap it between cars. https://stealth-mount.com/

Also, Stealth Mount uses a bracket style that works with standard GoPro-style mounts so if you don't the options they provide, you have a lot of alternatives available that will work with it. I started with their VHB mount on the windshield, but didn't like the look of the large grey pad visible from the outside of the car so I instead mounted a regular GoPro mount on the back of the mirror mount housing. The detector hangs just below the mirror, which does obscure my line of sight a bit but now that I am used to it it doesn't bother me. I might try moving it someday up to the top of the windshield, but that could interfere with using the sun visor.
