Hello,
The side of the driver's seat shows clear cracks after a year and 5000 km. Does anyone have this problem too?

Yes I agree - it does look like damage - like the kind you get from denim jeans studs...

You can buy a filler paste to hide it.

That looks like a side bolster so not jeans but it is at a wear point for getting in and out of the car.

You can try and see if they will replace it based on only being a year old but if not it should be an easy coverup at this point.

I have the same issue.. It's from me getting in and out of the car.. I have white seats and that area is pretty much black at this point (ok charcoal grey).

Jeans can be rough on any car. Also I highly highly recommend having the leather protected. The person that details my car was able to fully protect the seats for $200 USD. I have the Ice Grey seats and I hear how they can turn dark. I also try to use leggings or non-jean pants when I ride in it. I made a mistake in 1992 with my corvette that hade white seats - wore jeans and within 6 months the seats were not good.

So take to a car upholstery shop and have them protect your seats. You only need one coat - not two - the only reason to do two is if you missed spots with the first. So get a professional to do it that's done it before and I think those seats will last a long long time.

And let's face it - it's a lotus - it's going to be quirky - everyone should know that before they buy this car that a) it's the first model of its type b) it's all hand built c) well - it's a lotus. If you recall lotus was originally designed to be light and fast - therefore the cars were really barely good for one race. They have come a long ways since their F1 days. But still it's a lotus. Probably the best lotus has ever built - but it still has it's quirks -which I think that it's just like it's personality.

Exactly the same with my seat, I now have 22,000 km on the car. I really have to do something about this. My car will be at the garage next week. I will ask what the solution could be. Keep you posted.

start moisturizing to slow it down. Evaluate how you get in and out and try not to hit the bolster as much. Also, look at your pants for anything that may dig in.

I started using a cloth seat cover when I am driving and then take it off when I get out of the car and put it back on when I get back in and it's made a pretty decent difference.

I am going to get some leather conditioner as well to put on the seats to keep them nice and new (ish)
