But only if the manufacturer has fully "thrown in their hat" and committed to Apple by providing dedicated hardware for the car-specific bits, such as dashboard displays, in Carplay 2.0 ......

Sadly won’t work on the Emira. Different things like Android Auto and Android Automotive.
As far as I know there is no car on the road using that version of CarPlay. Apparently it'll be called CarPlay 2 and needs special hardware and tight software integration.
Right now CarPlay is just an app on the infotainment which mostly acts like a second screen for your connected device.
CarPlay 2 / Android Automotive is the infotainment (including drivers display) itself - standalone capable.

Oh, I thought this more advanced version of CarPlay is more of a whole OS rather than just added on functionality. If it is an OS that replaces Android Auto then it's a bad move. Because Apple does not play well with others and have demonstrated that they don't really care about open compatibility. In fact they actively work against it. Imagine that only Apple devices stream music in high quality and all other non Apple sources only get heavily compressed equivalent, like they currently do for photos in text messages.
