The 13 Emira Colors

Thanks everyone for such a great supportive forum!
I have learnt so much over the past few months so I wanted to finally give back a little.

I know everyone is really keen to know what 13 colors will be available after the First Edition! I know I was.

Well it looks like they included them within the public configurator setting files. It literally took 2 minutes to find in a web browser for those that are tech literate.

Here goes:

First Edition - 6 colors:
Color NamePaint Type
Seneca BlueMetallic
Magma RedMetallic
Shadow GreyMetallic
Nimbus GreyMetallic
Dark VerdentMetallic
Hethel YellowSolid

Interestingly the additional colors are marked as V6 FE colors, but that can't be as we would have been told that they are available by now.

Base Edition additional 7 colors:
Color NamePaint Type
Meridian BlueMetallicNew color?
Atlantis BluePearlescentExisting Lotus color
atlantis-blue.pngatlantis-blue-emira.png
Basically the blue version of Dark Verdent
Cosmos BlackMetallicShould be a nice deep black with silver speckle?
Osmium SilverMetallicThis could be a silvery aqua blue!

Real Osmium Metal
Vivid RedSolidBright red seen at Hethel?

Zinc GreySolidThe gray Emiras recently seen at Hethel? Probably like nardo gray or a little bit like crayon? I call it undercoat gray. :ROFLMAO:

Aspen WhitePearlescentExisting Lotus color

Also for the interior, looking at the settings file it seems that there will be a black leather with yellow stripe and black leather with red stripe option. I think you can see the yellow stripe on black leather on a head rest in the configurator videos if you look very closely. 😀

I bet this puts a rabbit in the hat for some of us! However the FE colors are really beautiful so you can't go wrong.

Happy Emira driving!

I'm guessing Cosmic Black is like the old Starlight Black - saw one in that colour in the production hall.

Definitely saw what looks to be Vivid Red and Zinc Grey, both solid colours.

Aspen White was on the car likely to be used for the first press review by Top Gear.

The blues we saw are probably the two blue ones.

Osmium Silver is probably the one Andrew and Greg saw that wasn't Nimbus. I saw one in the old Arctic Silver, which was labelled as AS but could be this new one.

The list also tallies with previous rumours about the +7 being black, white, red, two greys, two blues.

I'd like to see a 'true' silver, Nimbus isnt doing it for me since the new configurator (which is my chosen order colour ), Im actually swinging back to DV Green, but even shadow grey looks appealing now which I'd dismissed from day 1...

From your tour, did you see Shadow Grey? Was it the same as the mule/car Jenson drove? The config looks much more metallic and rich.

Yes, saw it on a part-built car in the production hall. I thought it did look richer and more metallic than the dynamic prototype, which I had seen up close at Goodwood.

My description of all the colours here:

Cheers Tom, I've read your thread so many times, I had a complete blank when I typed above 🤦‍♂️ all in all cant wait to see them in real life in a few months :)

Interesting... I had "aspen white" on my 2006 STi, but it certainly wasn't pearlescent. The white and dark blue are the only new options I'd be excited to see... I still fully intend to flip my FE if/when I can get a bespoke Verde Ithaca Emira GT. 😎

Great find!

Zinc Grey would have been my colour but being a FE customer means i only get a limited selection of colours - that aren’t even limited!

I still don’t like this particular move. The more we learn the more it seems the FE cars are essentially just the first released cars, there’s really not much special about them which disappoints me a little.

Really looking forward to hearing the next update form Lotus, hopefully there’s a surprise on the way.

I've had my deposit down since early/mid Aug and I'm unsure as to whether I'll get tapped for an FE by my dealer. These extra color choices take the sting out of it a bit.... Looking forward to seeing that white or Zinc Gray on a production vehicle.

They're called First Editions and yes they are the first released cars. There will be several hundreds of them rather than a "limited edition". They are fully loaded with a package of options at a decent discount. I'm curious what else you would want to be special about them?

That’s the thing…you can’t really say ‘at a decent discount’ because we don’t know what that discount is. Being fully loaded isn’t much of a differentiator either because you could just add the options all back in…

To answer your question though, I’d like something unique that actually separates these cars from the base car - a special paint option, a special wheel, special interior…anything really. I had expected the point of limiting the FE cars to fewer colours was because they’d be exclusive, maybe not all of them but at least one or two.

You're forgetting to crooked First Edition emblem on the side! That surely mitigates the first year risks and makes up for the limited colors, lack of ADAS, lack of TDC stripe, lack of colored seat stripes, and limited customization, etc... No? Not to mention Lotus holding our deposit money for a year+ interest free.

Great detective work OP! Interesting range of new colours, but fortunately none that would make me question my choice of Seneca which is now locked in for June. A lighter green like Motorsport Green seems a bit of a glaring omission though. I'd rather that than more shades of grey/silver, and I suspect it would have been more popular than Verdant as an FE colour

Any educated guesses about when the extra colours will be available? It surely isn't going to take that long to get the new paint shop up to speed, so I'd have thought they should be available sometime during rather than after the FE production run?

The discount is about £3k on a V6 FE.

We don't know yet if the FE colours will be available on Base. Nor do Lotus yet and they are reviewing whether to drop them after the FEs.

In effect you've got a special wheel, interior, seat, audio, drivers pack and HCI etc because you've got all the options included. But yes, you will probably be able to add most of them as cost options on the Base. But a raw Base won't have any of these - it'll have alloy wheels, cloth seats, basic audio, no drivers pack.

My hunch is they'll introduce them for the i4 FE. I think there would be too much backlash if they brought them in part way through the V6 FE run.

I am not a car collector so someone please correct me if I am wrong. To me, FE is more of a marketing designation. This designation won't have any real meaning until we see how the car evolves over time. Example, maybe they soften the suspension after FE. Then it will be known in the car world that if you want great handling, get the Emira FE.

If your question about the FE not being unique is rooted in future value/collectability, my opinion is that it may be more dependent on how you have maintained your car. Low miles, service records, no accidents, etc. Colors, options, etc. are all personal preference but a well maintained exclusive ICE vehicle will always find a buyer.

The limited colors is my biggest frustration. It'd be just another slap in the face if Lotus releases additional colors just for the i4 FE. Most V6 buyers are looking past the dated AND detuned powertrain, limited colors, and lack of customization simply to have a manual transmission. Lotus spoke of having one of the most advanced paint systems on the planet in the new Hethel facility, yet here we are with 6 colors... and they aren't even limited to the First Editions! AND now we know there is a white one going to the press...

I was looking at Astons the other night and the customization and paint options blew me away! Check out the configurator for the Vantage.

Lotus produced a Launch Edition Evora. Similar idea to the Emira FE, it had all the options included and then a bit of a discount. As with the Emira, it helped Lotus get some supply chain certainty and meet minimum quantity requirements with suppliers, plus prove the production processes. It was 400 cars and they sold out very quickly after the car was announced.

After the Evora LE you could spec a car to the same level and pay a bit more - lots of people did. People also took cars with less than full spec. There were three option packs and some individual items like 2+2 or 2+0, wheel type and reversing camera.

The Evora LEs don't command a premium over a same-spec non-LE. But they're well liked and sell well in the used market. Evoras with less than a full set of packs can be a more difficult sell used - particularly if missing Tech pack or Sports pack. Not having Premium pack is less of an issue.

About 18 months after the Evora LE they announced the Evora S, with a supercharger added and a number of other revisions.

I expect we'll see a similar situation with the Emira. First Editions will be well regarded, the inclusion of all the options will be seen as a benefit. Most Base Edition cars will probably have a decent chunk of options specified too. Ones that are lighter on options may be less popular at resale. And there will be a higher power version along later.

I'm with you on the paint options. The Launch Edition Evora had 20 to select from and I really don't get the need to restrict it to 6 for Emira when there is a brand new start of the art paint facility.

If you're buying a V6 FE I think you have to reflect on all of this info and decide if any of these things are too much of a compromise for you.

I love the characteristics of the Toyota V6 in the Evora in terms of torque curve, driveability, noise. I'm sure it'll be at least as good in the Emira. Do I wish it had more power? Not really - I've got 345hp in my Evora S and having driven 400/410/430hp variants I'm OK with 400hp in the Emira if that's what's in the FE. I wouldn't cancel or defer my order because I thought it needed 430hp. For other people this may be a more significant factor.

Similarly for me for the other things like ADAS and extra colours. For some people the compromises may be too significant and tip them into delaying for an i4 or Base car or cancelling.

At some point we all have get to a level of comfort with what we decide. I've accepted I can't get my original first choice of colour (and it's not in the 13 either) but am happy to be getting a Hethel Yellow one. I think it would be tough to take delivery of a car, knowing it wasn't really the one you wanted, if you're going to look at it often and think "wish I'd waited".

The other alternative is to get the FE that's "OK-ish" for you and plan on changing it for the next version that aligns better with what you want. I'm sure there will be plenty of willing buyers for a used FE. There were still willing buyers for Evora LEs and NAs long after the arrival of the Evora S and 400 and GT410 and GT430.

Although… our FEs don’t have all the kit — we know many of the driver aids will be missing. Secretly I’m hoping that Lotus drops the current FE colours once the run is finished, to give us a bit more exclusivity. But that doesn’t leave a lot of colours to choose from for the base model…
