The inevitable faster Emira

As I mentioned above, there's been discussion that after orders are submitted for 2025 V6 production for the European market, the remaining inventory of V6 engines will be allocated for the US in 2026. If that is true, the last of the V6's will be for the US and thanks to CARB, there won't be a power increase.

Likely a fluid situation. The recently announced tariffs may shift things away from the US.

The Euro 7 emissions standard is currently due to come into force in 2026 and car manufacturers selling cars in Europe will be required to meet this new standard - which will no doubt be stricter than Euro 6. Anyone know if the V6 lotus spec engine will comply with Euro 7? If not then Lotus will have to discontinue (or significantly modify) the V6 after the end of this year, at least in Europe. Originally Euro 7 was due to come into force in 2025 but was delayed to 2026. This might explain the mixed messages regarding the V6 end date and dropping the V6 in favour of the 4 cylinder turbo.

Small Volume Manufacturers (less than 10k cars per year) have until 2030 to comply with Euro 7.

The entire factory now makes one car. Well, two if you count Evija but that’s got to be a hard sell. Watching the build process, fitting glass roof panels or carbon for that matter, looks straightforward. The recent factory closure was to make changes for the SE. Not many V6’s to be seen. Given the V6 has been in production 2.5 years and they have released a higher BHP i4, I really don’t see the V6 is likely to get further development at this stage.
Personally, I’d have thought an Emira V6 with higher redline, badged Cup 430, with carbon panels (inc bonnet and roof) buckets, lightweight wheels etc would have pulled in a big premium but it seems like it won’t happen.

We sort of know what can be achieved with the V6 albeit with some mods in the GT4 which is not cheap to buy.

The next car that is due soon (Emira R) will be based on the 4 cylinder.

Remains to be seen one they do with the V6, personally I’m happy with the power for what I use it for it’s perfect.

Sound needs to be better but hoping to sort that.

You seem pretty sure about that… any insights or just another sourceless rumour like the V6 that should have been discontinued already like 3 times?
Well, the V6 rumour was made up and it is still peddled. I was at the factory two weeks ago and saw them being built.

I’m not going to reveal my source and you don’t have to believe me that’s fine.

But if you could do me the courtesy of acknowledging when it is announced in the next 2/3 months that I was correct.

I’m not saying there won’t be more V6 variants, I don’t have information on that. But I do know there is an Emira R based on the 4 cylinder.

I didn’t ask for more information because I don’t care as I’d never buy a 4 cylinder.

The demise of the V6 has been rumoured since they were first built. But every time they update the configurator you can still order one, and every time someone does a factory tour they're still building them. I don't think they're going anytime soon.

It would be cool if they offered a light weight package for the v6 and a higher HP package for the i4. Both seem doable and would further differentiate the two platforms.

This is consistent with what Lotus has said since the early days of Emira. They've always indicated that the V6 would be around for just a few years and that the AMG engine would bridge them to an electric sports car. For this reason I've always assumed that models like the R would be based on the AMG not the V6.
