I picked up my Emira last June, and it has about 4K miles on it. I recently noticed a windshield crack, going from the top down to the right of the mirror mount, across to the left along the bottom of the mount, and then a few inches down to the left of it . The thing is I don't recall a stone impact while driving, and there is no obvious impact defect. Possible stress crack, ie, warranty issue ? Anyone else had this happen ? The dealer wants $ 6000 to replace the windshield.

I've not experienced your issue and hopefully someone that has, will chime in to answer your question.

I'm assuming your dealer was no help (wouldn't agree it could be a warranty fix).

If you get no other answers, my one suggestion is to take your car to a reputable "vehicle windshield business", ask for the owner or shop foreman, and have him/her look at the windshield to tell you whether it looks to be a "manufacturer defect" or improper install, causing a stress crack. If they have to open up the seal or otherwise muck with the windshield, make sure and video whatever's done, after taking detailed photos of the windshield and its cracks, before they do anything. Perhaps a letter from them, including their experience dealing with windshields and "stress cracks" in particular (like a mini-CV), will change your dealer's mind and result in a warranty claim. Good luck!

PS: FWIW, I found this article on the Web:

I’m on my 3rd windscreen in 8 months cracked in exactly the same place as you described all done under warranty.
The 3rd replacement has a re designed rear view mirror mount bracket so hopefully that should be the last one i need to get replaced.

Cheers.

I have a crack that developed sometime in the same areas as the above thread and your description. Lotus has agreed to the warranty repair and glass is ordered to be put in.
