Am I the only one who doesn’t want a Porsche…

I can put up with a lot, but not if the basics arent right. So the gearshift has to be good, the pedals have to be set up correctly for heel and toe (expecially as no auto blip). No point me having a manual sports car if not!
Will await a drive
You waiting for a test drive before committing? If so same as me.

Have you contacted Central at all? Was thinking of giving them a ring tomorrow
I haven’t I was waiting to inform customer services when they call me up to place the remaining balance. I think you are most probably right to get our names down for a test drive with them.

I absolutely HATE Porsche !! ...... actually I don't hate Porsche...... I actually DOUBLE HATE Porsche.....yah , that it !!!

Lotus have priced the base Emira at exactly the same level as an equivalent base Cayman. Exactly the same price even when taking equivalent options into account
^^^ This. Then there's the small point that you can spec a Porsche exactly how you like, as long as you have the budget. No TDC stripe available on the manual Emira steering wheel??? How does that even make sense?

As it happens, I really like the look of both the 911 and Cayman - classy and understated - something the Emira is not. That is exactly why many owners spend £250k+ on a GT3 which looks superficially the same as an £80k base 911 - they really don't care about the attention (in fact the attention is often a negative) and bought the car to drive it, experience the superb performance and dynamics and enjoy it themselves. Many of those same drivers would not be seen dead in a Ferrari, for the same reasons.

Porsches are hugely capable cars and I'm lucky enough to have owned several of them (in fact, I still have a 1971 911S as a weekend toy and my wife has a Macan).

But I'm ready for an Emira. I've "done the Porsche thing" for 15+ years and to be honest I'm a bit bored with them.

There's nothing fun about just driving the same car, model after model, year after year. Surely we all want to try and enjoy lots of different things, and not limit our experience to one car brand, even if it's perceived as "the best" by the online community.

I'm not a fan of the Porsche looks and was about to get the v8 f type when the Emira was announced. Our German friends make excellent cars whether its a Porsche or Audi, but they are a bit of a victim of their own success as there are so many of them. I think the UK has some great car designers and shallow as I am I'll take the looks

But would you take the looks now Nick in an I4, assuming that addresses the criticisms of the V6 engine and gearbox identified in a few reviews?

right - and as always everything is a compromise - for me it was gearbox vs the theatre and noise of the v6 - the noise won - and every time I am in a tunnel or a mountain pass, I will know why I went v6... If acrapovic can't make the amg sound good, I am not sure Lotus will - maybe they will surprise us

I have had a Porsche, only a 968. Loved it.
Cayman - sorry, ugly plain Jane but great once actually inside it and driving.

The performance of the Emira is still very good - let's not panic.
The looks are superlative. Together, that is a great package for the 'other car'.

This may be a little "left field" and I do not have experience of either of the cars to testify to their abilities...i leave that to the pro's, but I am sure that I have read on many occasion that as an "out and out" drivers car the Cayman is the best out there, even better balanced/road use/day to day driveability and as an all round performer better than the 911. So.....with most of the reviewers suggesting the Emira in certain quarters to have the measure of the Cayman should we not be rejoicing in the fact that apart from straight line performance the Emira is in fact directly comparable to a 911!!!!??? I'll prepare to be "shot down". Just a thought?

Just been into customer services news soon on test drives, if I change to I4 queue I might get pushed back towards the end of the current queue even though I'm deposited on 7th July.

Call me cynical but they have been saying news 'soon' on test drives for early depositors for literally months now, and most recently to me two weeks ago. Time is getting very short indeed if this is going to happen, but it must surely be in Lotus's interested sort something out if they are to avoid a wave of cancellations or deferral requests from those with a July delivery, especially after the somewhat mixed press reviews yesterday.

I was told wait for news on test drives very soon I( next week or week after) im sure I won't be the first call on this, I asked what would happen if I delayed until a test drive. They didn't know how the build schedule may cope.

The thing is they are going to have to ask people for the 30 day pre-delivery lock in very soon if deliveries are to happen in July, so it already seems too late. As Tom has mentioned one solution could be to build the car as planned, store it, and allow the customer to defer payment until after a test drive. Who knows? In my case it is complicated by being out the country for the first 3 weeks of July. I really would like some clarity on all this ASAP.

I don't want a Porsche.
I find the styling very very bland. They all look the same to me and I don't think anyone other than fan boys can tell the difference between one costing 20k or one costing 100k.

This is great if you want to 'look good' for minimal cost and just shove a dateless plate on it and most people will never know.

I have no doubt they are great cars, but they literally do nothing for me to look at.

The only exception is the Tycan GTS Sport Turismo which I think is the best EV right now.

Yeah, looks great in most colours.

Bloke at a bar chatting up a girl.
"Me, oh, I drive a Porsche cayman"
Girl: That sounds impressive. Let me get my coat, take you to my place and have rampant sex.
They go outside, hand in hand.
Man opens up the door to the Cayman. She looks disappointed.
Man in Emira drives up next to it, parks it and gets out.
Emira Driver: Hi young lady, what a nice day and walks towards the bar door.
Girl shuts the Cayman door and runs after the Emira Driver and takes his hand.
Girl: So, tell me more about yourself.
