Configuration mistake on my delivered car - and Lotus won't take responsibility.

I think my video on the black pack and privacy glass spooked many people out.
I think your video provided all of us with the clarity needed to make informed decisions about our choices - more so than anything I have seen from Lotus. I think the Lotus community here is universally thankful for your very detailed video!

If you have bought the car using Lotus supplied credit, then you should complain and tell them if they wont rectify the issue, you will take your complaint to the Financial Services Ombudsman. The ombusman will probably look on your case favourably, plus, Lotus have to pay a £750 case fee wether they win or lose, that might be enough to make them think twice.

I sent my grumbles to a guy called Neil who I believe is the head of customer experience.

Let’s see what happens… I can’t believe that they would just send me packing as I’ve done nothing wrong.

Although now I know that taking out the rear glass is a rear bumper and rear side panels off job do I want the car stripped just to change the glass…

You might be right there, they don't even require any sort of adhesive sealant to remove or install -- they're held on by two M6x12 bolts and one M5 nyloc nut.

However you have to remove the rear bumper, tailgate trim, fender badging, both rear fenders to get access to replacing the glass.
Have you read all 600 pages of the Service Notes already? :)

Good news arrived from Lotus today and so I thought this thread needed an update…

Lotus had another look at what’s happened and that I did everything correctly when changing spec etc so they have agreed to replace the glass free of charge.

The good news is that I actually like the darker glass on the boot lid so they are only replacing the side windows back to the standard glass.

If for any reason someone wanted to do this to their own car - the small glass side windows cost £300 each!

And to do the work the rear bumper and rear archs on both sides need removing as well as the interior trim! That’s somewhere around £1,200 labour.

Wow @ that labor price, it sounds like while it may not be a clamshell design, it's still very laborious to remove the rear fenders.

I'd expect transmission clutch replacement to be just as expensive as the Evora.

I feel like a cock writing this, even thinking it, but would changing the side windows count as a modification and could be a get out for an insurer in a future claim?

Specifically thinking a glass claim here.

1. How would the insurer even know it had been replaced?
2. The glass now matches the spec the car was sold with. It is not different or modified.
3. It was done by the manufacturer.
4. It's a standard Lotus window.

Full car specifications as built are recorded and stored, insurers and repairers can call it up from reg/vin.
It will be recorded on such systems with tinted glass, unless it can be amended - and then it is neither fully tinted or fully untinted unless the rear screen is changed too.
Have an accident, specifically a side glass replacement, and an insurer could cause issues, or you could end up arguing the toss of the repairer fitting the correct part according to records, i.e. a tinted side window.
Honestly any excuse for insurance not to pay out...

Absolutely no chance.

Glass would be replaced by a glass fitter in a backstreet auto windscreen type place. Insurance wouldn’t be involved except handing over payment.

Good result. Exactly how I want to spec my car!

I wonder the costs to replace the rear glass? Parts and Labour? How easy it would be ...

Requires removal of the tailgate, still a lot less work than the side glass though.

I’m guessing you’re still looking at $1500 in parts and labor.
