Emira (wide)shut line Discussion

Then why not wait and be a late adopter to ensure you are satisfied with the quality meeting your big boy manufacturer expectations? Also, for that money, even if you deem 100k "limited funds", there are decent used market options. And by the way, Lotus will never really compete with the big boys, you should have gathered that some time ago even with the new launches.

When people repeatedly post negative stuff, I doubt it's good for their well being.

Hope you have a good buying experience anyway.
you say that, but I think their intention is to compete with the "big boys" if the actual big boy sports car maker is porsche as they sell many many more cars than any italian sports car companies and afterall those companies are far more expensive.
I agree the Emira will not compete with its natural competitors, which perhaps vary in different markets, but are really a GTS/GT4 Cayman, and those getting this car as a track weapon are barking up the wrong tree, either get an Atom, a GT4 or a sup'd up MX5 .... IMO, but I think Lotus with the Evira, the Eletre and their next cars are 100% trying to compete with these big boys. The spec's of the Eletre are right along the line of the big boys and they want to sell quantities, so again, I think they do intend to compete and I hope they can, but it seems to be they are figuring things out as they go along, especially in terms of customer service, sales agents etc.

Well since you asked … I’m buying now because I need a car. It’s not an extra toy for me. Don’t want used cars - don’t trust that other people haven’t abused them. I take very good care of my property. And why shouldn’t I expect Lotus wants to play with the big boys quality wise since they themselves have emphasized the huge investment since day 1?

Demanding that companies produce a quality product is great for my well being. Listening to fan bois excuse lack of same (Tesla anyone…and some here unfortunately) is what gets my bp up. The infotainment glitches in the Taycan are a perfect example - I’d be livid if I paid 150k for a car and it would randomly just lock up. Not acceptable.

My issue is that the only other car I am considering is a GT4 and that is a distance 2nd to the Emira, That means whatever the Emira is or isn't is fine with me. Sure I want quality and stuff but there is nothing that Lotus can do to bump me down to my second choice unless I just can't get a car.

Curious PaulP, what would be the next two or three cars if not the Emira?

I know these are all different but they all speak to me and I will buy one of these if the reviews of the Emira are not top quality :
2023 bmw m2
Porsche 718 spyder
Porsche taycan gts
Bmw z4

Have an m4 which is pretty close in weight to the f87 m2, love the 718 spyder, renting a z4 m40i right now in San Diego via Turo.

Skip the z4 m40i, it’s terrible.

Interesting, I’m probably selling my 718 Spyder + Model 3, replacing it with a Taycan Sport Tourismo 4S and adding the Emira. The Taycan will become my wife’s daily to replace the Tesla. If I don’t like the Emira then we just keep the Spyder and Model 3 and wait and see what the Macan EV looks like.

My daily is a ‘21 Ridgeline. Need something to tow the boats and bikes

I actually owned one of the original Honda Ridge lines – it’s just the quirky kind of vehicle that I love. I like to own things that are less common. Plus it drives great!

That’s HK for ya!

Agreed, if Lotus wants to keep catering to that small niche audience that doesn't mind quality issues, RIP.
I love comments like this. Lets see, hmm, Boxter/Cayman cup holders, do they meet functional quality standards, or is Porsche given a free pass because they get so much else on the car right.

Can we wait for the car to be in production before slagging it off.

Go test drive the Taycan first. I thought the same, wanted to trade my Tesla for the Porsche and I was not impressed. You might feel differently, however.

I wonder if some early adopters are unrealistic about expectations.......wanting perfection. Start ups take time to settle down, some take years and some never settle, Mclaren and TVR come to mind.

The real issue for me is *will Lotus support unforseen issues?*

If the answere is NO then don't be an early adopter.

I'm looking forwards to July/August delivery.....I hope I never get on first name terms with the local service manager🤣

A recent view from the German Lotus Forum about outlook of the policy and future of Lotus regarding the Emira and the Lotus service for Europe and their largest market, Germany...........(Google translation)

If the information in the other forums is correct, then apparently all Emira go to Oxford after production for a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) and are then redistributed from there - in the case of a factory collection from there back to Hethel. That would be at least something new for Lotus and maybe. suitable for turning off and adjusting a few of the very obvious things before the car goes to the dealer or customer. In this way, the cars can of course also be put out of sight and stockpiled more inconspicuously if the last parts are missing.

How the Lotus otherwise presents itself with sales and customer service in Europe and how that should fit into an expansion strategy is probably only known in Hethel. With the exception of the English home market, so far the network has tended to be scaled back rather than expanded. Apparently, people believe that the cars would sell themselves through the influencers and otherwise by themselves.

Or maybe there is still more time than we always think before the first of the new cars will reach the customer? Goodwood will be back soon, and reminds us how time flies: Since Evija and Emira are there for the how many times? The flagship project was shown there in 2019 as 'Sneak Peek' in virtual reality (then unveiled shortly thereafter in London in July 2019), then in 2020 the 'dynamic debut' in black livery, and then in gold in 2021 together with the 'dynamic debut' the Emira. And now Emira is about to come to Goodwood for the second time and Evija for the fourth time, but the dealers and customers still haven't reached it... Doesn't have to be the benchmark for Emira, but the relationship between announcement and fulfillment is still the same at Lotus today already provided with clear space.

Factory visit last week, the shut lines on the completed cars looked fine to the eye. They are still tweaking processes, look forward to seeing a production car.
Have you asked if the weather seal is user removable? Or is there a way to adjust the width?

Lotus is a start up now?

New factory, new staff, new technologies, new suppliers, new retail model etc. It's not a start up but a lot of things have been or are being changed.

Respectfully though, it’s still a lot of the same people hand building a lot of the same or similar parts being bonded with the same materials and technologies — but with some additional tools and more attention to detail. I’d fully expect the quality to go up even as an “early adopter”.

I’m not making any attacks at you personally TomE but this Lotus forum vibe sure is starting to sound a bit like a Tesla apologist group.

For the record, I don’t even think the shut line looks bad or is an issue.
