GRP Short Shift Kit

Has anyone compared the Aerie short shifter to the GRP? Curious if there is any difference in feel and throw length.

I have the GRP (45-60% throw reduction) and I have it set at 45%. The Aerie short throw claims a reduction of up to 30%. Other than the difference in throw reduction I see no reason to pick one over the other. They both operate on the same principle of reducing the radius at which the force from the shifter is applied. Aerie claims that over 30% reduction could compromise the gear box, but that sounds suspect to me. I’d go with the one that offers the travel reduction you want. I didn’t think the stock throw was overly long so the Aerie offering may have been better for me in hindsight.

Thanks. I posted earlier that I actually prefer the OEM throw but find 1st a little loose and reverse not going in all the time. Just wanted a tighter feel.

I was trying to reduce some forward and backward play while in gear when I bought the GRP short throw. It didn’t make much difference. I don’t mind the shorter throw though. If you have a hard time getting into certain gears, I’d look at a cable adjustment. Some guys have had success with that.

After installing the short shifter, gears 1,3, and 5 almost have no travel up from neutral but 2, 4 and 6, have shut half the oem travel distance down from neutral. Any suggestions?
Many thanks.

Yeah did you do the max setting?

I did and it’s like this and neutral sits little to the right.

This looks right. If you’re having trouble with shifting I would experiment with a different amount of screwing in the short shifter to shorten or elongate the overall cable length. It will change the neutral position and should help.

Thank you, and thank you hellasf1, I’ll have to give this a try. I had it on the longest and shortest setting but I suspect it’s the cable length.

This generally sounds like a nice improvement, I'm assuming a local service shop like the one in Seattle, WA would be able to install this for me? Or would they be more hands off since it's not an official Lotus product?

I like the long throws in OEM but would like to make the shift more direct. Are there any solutions for this?
I think if you just swap the knuckle for one with a spherical bushing vs the OEM rubber one you may get what you are looking for.

I had mine done a couple of days ago. It's a fairly simple and straight forward installation process with simple hand tools required. You should be able to do it yourself in about 1 hr.

Thank you all for your guidance and special shot out to @kitkat for the video tutorial of the short throw adapter, excellent write ups on the reverse lockout plate and boot delete. I ended up installing an Aerie short shifter and so far I like it. Here are a few thoughts on the mods today:

- Reverse lockout plate made a huge difference. I knew that after driving it for a couple months the sifter felt sloppier than then I first bought it. Mine was sitting very low.

- Aerie short shifter install went okay, although I only used one end link? I emailed them to make sure this was right. I used Kitkat's video as a guide.

- I decided to install the boot delete and keep the mesh grill below. I really like how clean it looks, even with the tan interior. The graphite look of the 3D printer looks really good contrasting the piano black and metal colors around on the console.

I'll share pictures later.

Forgot to ask...

The shifter position is now rear-bias, and slightly to the right. How do I move it slightly higher and center?

You will need to unscrew the short shifter a few turns (trial and error) to fix the rear-bias caused by pulling on the shift cable too much. As for the right-bias, can't adjust it here because the short shifter adds thickness to the overall assembly, pushing it down. You will need to adjust the selector cable (the other cable) for that. I just left it as-is and it hasn't bothered me, albeit it is a RHD vehicle.

[edit] The "other cable" is referred to as the "Crossgate Cable" in the Service Notes, and you will need to adjust it from inside the cabin.
