Is it weird I like driving it a lot more than modern 911's?

I have had a 997,991, and a tuned 992.1 GTS.

The 992.1 GTS is a complete beast when its going over 120 or so.

But at slow speeds, I hate to say it.. but.. it is.. boring.

Honestly, I dont really get the hype on why enthusiasts love modern 911s.

I LOVE that brand it will always be near and dear to my heart.

But, god, get an Emira, do third-cat delete, eventuri, and rip that f*cker on a fall day with the windows down and theres nothin' like it (as far as I've experienced at least).

Its an epic emotional experience I have not had with a car before.

Maybe a GT3 would be slick, but, everything is so big..

I have found that the 3rd cat delete + eventuri definitely gives it significantly more power. It is still a tad light on power but it definitely gives the car a bump. Much better in 2nd.

I was driving around today in Sport Mode with the driver's window down, and man it sounded good. I noticed above about 50 you start to hear wind buffeting. I put my hand up where the seatbelt comes out behind the driver's seat, and the buffeting stopped. It's the seatbelt. If @GRP or @Aerie could come up with some kind of deflector that could clip onto the receptacle at the top to deflect the wind away, that would do the trick.

We have a 991 now (previously 996) and I feel like the electric power steering has kind of ruined the feel of them since they went to that. Big difference driving them back to back. Also they continue to grow in size too much. Great car but its my wife's that she wanted so the Emira was my choice.

Totally agree. I've found that modern 911s are pretty boring at legal speeds, particularly if they're PDK.
Driving the Emira is always an occasion.

When I was a kid reading Road & Track, and all the other car magazines, all I focused on was power numbers and performance stats. Now that I can actually drive a car, I completely understand how those numbers are largely irrelevant. It's about how the car makes you feel. I haven't had the privilege to own other high-end sports cars to compare the Emira to, but the Emira makes me feel great every time I drive it! It makes me want to "rip on it" non-stop!

Like I've posted before, sometimes I think to myself, isn't it silly to put that kind of money toward a car. Then I drive it again, and have no regrets!

Same sentiment - I loved/love my P cars, but I had zero hesitation jumping into the Emira from my 991.2 GTS (Tune, Cats, Etc.). Yes, blasting to 140 in no time was fun, but the Emira is more fun to drive. I think the GTS being PDK and the Emira being manual really is not an apples to apples comparison, though. It also gets WAY more attention. It's a third car for me, so I can understand if you were a one car solution person how the 911 fits the bill perfectly.

Our current stable is a 2022 F-150 Tremor that I daily drive 25-30k miles a year, my Emira "Toy", and a Taycan GTS that my wife daily drives - I enjoy the different experiences and that's what makes it fun.

The 911 (which I have admittedly never driven) is a big car now. There's just no way to hide size when it comes to cars. The wheelbase has increased 7 inches since the 993. Amazing!

Couldn't agree more...I've owned every variant of the 911 from The SC through the 991.1. (circa 1982-2013) And saw first hand how 911's morphed from a driver focus sports car to a large, heavy grand tourer. Modern 911's are marvels of engineering but they are no longer driver focused sports cars. New Porsche GT cars are more driver focused but models such as the GT3, GT3 Touring and S/T are nearly unobtainable from the dealer as a new allocation. Dealers cater to their uber-customers who buy them, park them, and flip them in a year to take a profit. All of this doesn't change the fact the the 911 in any of its various forms is just too big to be a true sports car by "traditional" definitions. If anyone doubts that statement look at a "G" body 911 next to a modern 911. From a size comparison, its like parking a Miata next to a 70's Cadillac.

Yeah one of my biggest complaints is the size. I wish they'd make a special version smaller 911 that catered to old school stuff. .. but had modern features in it. That would be awesome.

I finally put on my GRP cat delete last night, and wow. The car should have come like this from the factory. It's SO much better at moderate RPM and part throttle, it's wild. Drivability significantly improved.

And the SOUND! 🤤
welcome to the club. I don't even remember pre-cat delete days. it's a no brainer.

I find comments like this funny. The 911 is not a driver focused sports car because of its size? Since you mentioned the 991, you do realize that it is essentially the same size as the Emira right? So I guess the emira is not a driver focused car either? Look at how massive it is compared to an Elan from that same 911 g series era.

you can clearly see the evidence that the Emira is more driver focused than the 911. Look at how much sleeker and shorter it is! 😆

Haha. But its also 8.7 cm wider than the 911. Basically a boat on wheels.
I reject your facts and double down on my ill-informed opinion. The 911 is an enormous boat of a car and a shadow of what it used to be. The Emira, despite weighting around 3,200 lbs., is a razor sharp featherweight!

I think the 911 is an incredible car... and more capable than the Emira
I'm just saying I don't think the driver has as much of a connected, emotional feeling anymore - unless you're going at illegal speeds.

The emira also feels smaller inside, which I like. Yes, its wider than the 911 but quite a bit shorter.
