Phone call from lotus

Is there a best guess delivery date for a 12 July order for v6 just wondering if I should buy a 22 plate for it or hold on in case its sept onwards delivery
12 July was after the big peak of Goodwood deposits so I think will translate into a late 2022 delivery, probably Oct-Dec.

It might be earlier but I think 2000 of the 2700 UK deposits were taken by 11 July (Sunday of Goodwood).

thanks for the replys.guess i will wait till nearer the time to look for a plate guessing a 72 one

If my delivery date is after Sept 1st this will be for sale (the plate not the car!) Subtle but petrolheads will get it was my thinking.

Sorry for the ignorance on this. I put my deposit down a few weeks ago. Is the phone call to verify that you have an actual car reserved and can configure it? Or maybe a better way to word it is that dealers are finally finding out what their actual allocation is going to be?

No sadly not - it's just to find out which engine choice you would like to determine which queue to put you in. If your deposit was a few weeks ago then you're probably looking at 2023 whichever engine you choose.

Edit - I realised you're in the US which means dealers there are doing things slightly differently to the UK.

Ah got it, thanks. When I put down the deposit he asked what engine I wanted. As of right now I'm #75 at a dealer getting between 60 and 80 cars so I may not even get a First Edition car..........

Some of you may remember Lotus saying in late Nov/early Dec they were pausing the calls to UK deposit holders and would resume in December. It looks like they've started calling again.

The first batch of calls created a book of 500-600 V6 FE configurations and second deposits, so roughly the first 6 months of UK production. I expect this new set of calls is to create the “Batch 2” book, so the second 6 months and provisionally for delivery Sept 2022 onwards. As with the first batch, I expect they'll call in roughly deposit date sequence and I think they'd reached August deposits in the first round.

If you've had one of the calls, what have they said about a deadline for configuration and second deposit? My hunch is this group are going to get longer to make decisions and won't have to do third deposit/order commit until well into Q1 next year - hopefully after the press reviews and with demo cars at dealers.

I am keen on V6 FE and pretty decided on spec (apart from final colour, obviously 😂) so didn't ask about deadlines for the configurator and 2nd deposit. Estimate for 3rd deposit and commitment was around march 2022, around when dealer demo cars would be filtering through. They were cagily estimating delivery roughly late '22/early '23 for V6 FE.

That's useful to know about March for 3rd deposit. Q4 2022 or early 2023 sounds realistic depending on where you are in the queue.

Tom, has that been generally acknowledged by Lotus?

When I initially put my deposit down, it was July 19th and was told at Central i’d completely missed the first year’s allocation, but had my first and second calls with deposits paid quite a while ago. Never thought i’d be in one of the first 600 cars, thought i’d be nearer 1500 !! Sounds like quite a few haven’t committed to second deposits.

Hi GarrethN

I was told that I was the around 700th phone call made on the 10th of October, my first deposit placed on the 10th of July, they also said that 10% of people dropped out all together and 10% are waiting for the base spec car and around 40% are waiting for the I4 engine (Lotus words not mine). If this is true I would say I was in the first 300 - 400 deliveries for the uk, hopefully no later than Jul/Aug.

If your initial deposit was the 19th of July you may have just crept into the first 600 cars and may get one Sep/Oct (Guesstimate of course)

Hope that helps.

Not officially but my estimate is based on conversations with Customer Services, Sales, dealers and what people have been posting about deposit dates and calls. I may be under by a few 100 but it feels about right. The info from DJS fits with it too.

I placed my deposit on 7th November and received a call today from Lotus Customer Care, which I missed. An email followed shortly thereafter asking about my choice of engine.

Looks like the Customer Care team is racing through the list of 1st deposit holders. What can I expect next?

If you reply to say V6 FE they’ll send you a personalised link to the configurator to save your specification and pay the second deposit. You’ll then be contacted in early next year about finalising spec and 3rd deposit.

If you say i4 FE or Base V6/i4 they’ll put you into the next batch of calls mid next year.

If you’ve got any questions before deciding, you can call them to discuss.

And as @TXEMIRA says, stand by for more excitement, sleepless nights and endless re-visiting of the configurator :)
