Before my installer redoes the PPF on the rear quarter panels of my Emira, I wanted to ask if any of you have removed the intake vents to make the job more seamless.

Just wanted to know if that possible

In this video, the installer does not remove the intake vents. He does the whole quarter panel without any relief cuts or seams. I wish my ppf installer would have followed his lead here.

I saw that. I want my film to go underneath the vents .

I would be curious to see a follow-up on the car to see how those extra tight/stretchy areas held up or if they pulled up over time. How are your relief cuts?

That’s why I want to take the vents out so I’m not going to stretch out that much film . I curious if someone did it the way I wanted to do it

You would have join lines then because more than one sheet of ppf would need to be used.

Here are some close up photos of the vents. Wrapped and tucked on both sides.

My shop originally did single sheets but they said cars from earlier wraps started to lift due to the heat from the vents, so they opted to add relief cuts like a lot of other shops instead of using extra amounts of of promoter/adhesive (fear of paint damage if/when needing to remove). Can't say I like having a relief cut, but we'll see how it turns out.

since all these cars are also slightly different, my installer noted the potential for chafing between the vent and the ppf. I haven't noticed it yet and I can totally see a relief cut being better for longevity - there's a relief cut in mine that I'm going to live with and not care about haha.

So, my quarter panels are done. I asked them to remove the vents and make the install as seamless as possible. They did a decent job overall. The film is slightly overstretched in some areas, and if you look closely, you can see the stretch lines. But with these panels, there are only two options—some overstretch or a relief cut. Now, I’m thinking it might have been better to go with the pre-cut pattern.

I think it depends on the film too. I had Stek installed instead of Xpel because I was told it was easier to shape and optically better. As a result, my vents were removed and the film folded in with no seams / relief cuts. This was a few months ago, and still no signs of the film lifting.

I have XPEL . There is to way take them out and do with relief cut which I think I can live with some stretch marks
