This seems to be a popular sentiment on these forums…Dust it? What, dust it at the lights - are we all just drag racers? Each to their own but that's not for me.
Anyone who is interested in drag races at the lights should just buy the fastest road going drag racer they can can afford, probably an EV.
Anyone who is interested in a total driving experience and enjoying and responding to the feedback the car gives them should get a Lotus or something similar.
So depending what anyone is after, the Emira may indeed not be what they want or what they should buy.
With how lauded lotus chassis are I wouldn't have thought that an issue. Quite a few performance cars pushing north of 400bhp, RWD and still quick off the line.I think above 400bhp you need 4wd to put the power down, otherwise it’s a handful. Will be interesting to see if I4 is retarded in first gear to eliminate torque spin.
Nobody said they were mutually exclusive, but you can have straight line speed and still not have a complete or satisfactory experience. This seems to be a popular sentiment on these forums…
A total driving experience and straight line speed are not mutually exclusive…it’s not one or the other…you can actually have both. Speed is a large part of the driving experience too.
The Emira could be, should be, and eventually will be quicker.
I don’t think anyone will complain when that happens.
Dude, go lurk on rennlist. Sounds like your prefer a Porsche.500hp gives more feedback than 400hp
Carbon metallic brakes (NOT offered on EMIRA) give more feedback than steel
hydraulic steering gives more feedback than electric
Fast revving FPC engine gives more feedback than a minivan engine with a blower.
Handling has no objective metrics ?

I’ve blocked him for a reason. Absolute toss pot Pfffttttttt…Dude, go lurk on rennlist. Sounds like your prefer a Porsche.
Yah but this is a problem for people like me who live in flat states with straight roads. The weakness is magnified and is still my biggest debate vs getting another bmw that is faster and 30-50 grand less….Dust it? What, dust it at the lights - are we all just drag racers? Each to their own but that's not for me.

I can't pretend to fully understand American culture but I've certainly seen a lot of movies and TV and heard a lot of music that make reference to traffic light drag races and as you are saying that this is a weakness in the Emira then it sounds like it is not the car for you.Yah but this is a problem for people like me who live in flat states with straight roads. Sports cars only became popular here after returning servicemen brought their MGs back from England. They were woefully underpowered compared to the big engined American iron, but they offered handling and feel that the larger cars couldn’t. These “sports” cars came into their own on tight and twisty roads. Unfortunately, many areas of America are flat, with straight roads (the previous poster lives in such an area). Here, cars that people wanted were fast in a straight line. A small MG would get swallowed up on a wide, arrow straight, highway. I’m fortunate enough to live in an area that’s full of hills and turns- perfect environment for a car that’s focused towards handling over power. I used to love going around the outside of muscle cars heading up and down the mountains in my 1992 Miata. Wiped the smile right off of their smug faces .I can't pretend to fully understand American culture but I've certainly seen a lot of movies and TV and heard a lot of music that make reference to traffic light drag races and as you are saying that this is a weakness in the Emira then it sounds like it is not the car for you.
I can see how that would be frustrating when it is so appealing in many others ways but that kind of performance has never been something Lotus focus on.
Whatever anyone values in a car is totally their call, no one car will tick everyone's boxes.
It could also imply they have a very high level of confidence in the car.In the UK a few people cancelled or deferred into the i4 FE/Base queue when asked to confirm specs in Dec/Jan/Feb. But most are sticking and have until 30 days before delivery to back out, so we could see another wave of cancellations in May onwards. It's a risky strategy by Lotus, as people can walk away after that individual build has started.
.
I agree, I think they have a lot of confidence in the car. Plus a long waiting list and only limited permutations of spec, so if someone in June/July cancels there is probably someone in Aug/Sept or into Q4 with the same spec who can be swapped in.It could also imply they have a very high level of confidence in the car.
But yeah, it's unusual. I note it's actually called a reservation fee and not a deposit as a deposit is classed as a payment on the cost of the car.
Those BMW M seats are horrible though! I agree they needed more of a sporty seat on the Emira, but those M seats are all looks and zero comfort.Great reply I think you’d feel special in these seats, think lotus should of gone bit more sporty with the seats
I take it you’re not in line to buy one then …@eclat2emira acceleration is one of the most iimportant aspects of driving experience, sales show that. If you're fine with buying the slowest 100k car on sale that calls itself a sports car then that's great. I'm not, I expect a lot more for 6 figures; like 99% of other consumers which is why Lotus sales are atrocious. And yes the car will be dusted by a 50k BMW and will also lose to a 38K mustang. Since Lotus introduced the 2gr-fe over a decade ago they have done next to nothing to improve it. In the same time GM has made over 20 different corvette engines. Lotus can't even make their own engine, not even one. But sure go spend 100k on a car from a company that doesn't even believe in the platform
I take it you’re not in line to buy one then …
That's incorrect as I'm #1. Great contributio though
