Surely with customers waiting 18+ months they ship them as soon as they are built, no?
Not the early cars, they were part built and left standing while waiting for missing parts.

Some also stood at the PDI location either waiting to be inspected or waiting for fixes or waiting for delivery slots. Unfortunately these were during the winter months and cold/wet weather.

Should we add engine block oxidation to the list? It seems like every one I'm seeing has some pretty severe oxidation/corrosion on the aluminum block already. I'm starting to think these cars were sitting outside in the elements for a very long time before being delivered. I believe this is mostly cosmetic, but still unsightly on a brand new vehicle.

Same issue with mine

That's aluminum oxide (Al²O³), and while it's technically a form of corrosion it's actually benign and protective. Once the layer forms it prevents further exposure of the underlying metal to the elements.

It's very common on cast aluminum engines unless they've been coated with something. Super common on Subarus, for example. Purely cosmetic, and there's a solution you can spray on to clean it off but it's typically not recommended unless you are going to coat it regularly with some type of light protective oil.

It does need to be removed prior to any paint or welding on an aluminum part, but that's an uncommon scenario on these particular parts.

Yeah, that will really pop on nimbus and yellow.
I was going to paint my gold, along with the wheels and stripes.
Not now.. it is too nice to tinker with.
Might go for the carbon updates.

The oxidisation in question here is on the block/supercharger, not the top cover.

As Porter pointed out, is quite normal... Is actually one of the reasons I have spec'd dark tinted windows, as all aluminium components do this unless painted, anodised or treated in some way.

No news? All issues fixed? Realy quite last 10 days....

I’m really interested to know if Lotus have sorted the teething issues out before mine goes down the line in a few weeks 😬

I think we're all hoping these issues get addressed quickly! I guess that's one potential positive outlook for me having to wait until the end of summer for mine.

ECU replacement solved my engine warning light issues / limp mode issues.

The remaining issues I have (listed in my diaries thread) are really minor, but it's in with Lotus Glasgow to have these resolved just now anyway:

1) SOS system error
2) ESC system requires a service appears occassionally
3) Handbrake wouldn't release once when the above error was on
4) couple of items of trim to be refitted better
5) brake discs to be checked - prob no issue, just for re-assurance

Point 5 is confirmed as a non issue, it's the brake disc balancing.

Just to update on the above.

Issues 1 and 3 are resolved with software updates
Issue 5 is confirmed as a non issue
Issue 4 - parts ordered up so just waiting on arrival to dealer

Issue 2 however is still outstanding, Lotus working on a patch, yet to be provided to dealers.

My front right tire pressure sensor stopped working in 2*C and icy rain today. Came back after a while, disappeared again and then returned to normal. Not a biggy by any means and maybe due to the weather. Happens often on BMWs as well. Just wanted to document for the statistics 🙂

I''ve got this SOS warning issue popping up randomly now ( 1300 miles in) need to get round to sorting it. I live on top of a hill not underground . dropped on this thread to look for a fix - still need to do a journal! @TomE

So basically the SOS warning light is due to low battery in the SOS module and it’s a different from the main battery. The way to fix this is to drive your car more often so it charges up the battery in the SOS module. You can’t put a charger like you do on the main battery. Dealer confirmed this and mines fixed itself by driving more often.

I'm not at all doubting the info you are passing on but if that's the case mine will be on all the time as I don't use any of my 2 seaters in the salty season - and wont going forward. It makes my toes curl.
If I do even 2000miles in the Emira in summer* it will be a miracle.

*at this rate might not even be this summer!!!!

#forthedrivers ... Looks like the Lotus engineers took it literally and placed a SOS warning light letting us know that we are not behind the wheel often enough ... haha

I didn’t believe it either when the dealer told me. But the reason why the sos comes and goes is battery drain when not in use. Mines gone now. Pretty sure it’s only the early builds when parts/cars sat around for ages.

Something to check is the boot. If it’s not closed properly then, it will drain the battery as the electronics are on. The boot stoppers need adjusting, needs a good slam and also the overly sensitive key in your pocket can often open the boot accidentally.

Thats why the boot light switch on my Esprit is disconnected 😂👍
