Emira Issues - from final production cars

You can bet what you want, I don't really care. We all know that you are constantly bashing the car on every opportunity you get (or even don't get). Fact is, ever car I saw was very well painted. Obviously you only make things up like "flat colors blue and yellow have the most orange peel". Blue isn't even a flat color ;) And the sanding mark is obviously not from Lotus, because they don't sand cars.
Do you have a nice house btw? And where is it located? I would bet four houses against what you are saying :)

1. I am not "bashing" the car. I am just highlighting issues which you should not be expecting when spending £80k.

2. Stand corrected sir on the Blue that it is not flat. But orange peel is certainly more noticeable on blue and yellow cars. I don't know the reason for this but the least noticeable tends to be Nimbus - this is what B&C told me.

3. I never said the sanding mark was from Lotus. It was the PDI. But paint is not great - its soft and in three cars I saw at B&C paint was missing on some edges. My car even had a paint drip, although my detailer managed to sand it out.

My overall point was simply to advise owners not to get home delivery so you can inspect the car properly under showroom lights. Trying to get Lotus to rectify any paint issues post-delivery is an arduous and difficult process.

Have a good day.

Im getting home delivery on Wednesday, going to be a nice day apparently, can't wait. Ill quickly go over it and simply sign the delivery not as not fully inspected. If there are any problems later ill contact CS who will arrange to send out a detailer or it will go to an approved body shop. No big issue. Dealer collection will be no better, I saw one delivered prior to PDI and it looked like it had been driven through a ploughed field, at least mine will be shiny when it rocks up!

You are correct that dealer PDI are not great either, but now BCI have stopped doing them before transporting to dealers hoping it gets better. BCI were apparently using a squeegee on the car!

It took 5 weeks of hard negotiations for Lotus to approve my works. It was a proper fight where I threatened to reject the car. In the end, I gave up getting perfection and just paid my own detailer to fix the minor remaining issues.

Don’t bet it will be shiny. The cars are held in an airfield before home delivery. It then depends on which delivery guy you get. Fingers crossed it will be perfect.
Mine was delivered in a closed trailer (I expect they all are) and was not clean. It also had scratches on the front and rear. The front very deep and would not polish out.
Of course Lotus will rectify it or take the car back. However we have all waited so long and this is totally unacceptable.
I do hope it’s sorted now and they have fixed this issue with more cars being delivered. Good luck but do inspect thoroughly while the guy is handing over as it will be very hard to go back once he has left.

I've seen many detailing videos of new Porsche's, Ferrari's, Rolls, Bentley's with horrendous paint! Holograms, sanding marks, hidden damage behind factory ppf, clear coat issues, dust nibs, swirl marks, etc. This happens on all new cars. A new car is NEVER perfect.
But, I've also heard so many times people declare their paint is "perfect" and it's swirled to crap. Most just don't know how to properly inspect paint and in the correct lighting.

Exactly! Anyone who thinks their car is going to be "perfect" is totally delusional, and anyone who believes their car is "perfect" doesn't know how to inspect a car.

I have had other supercars 4x the price and even those were far from perfect. However, often a good detailer can rectify those issues, however, in my instance the scratches and machine burn marks were so bad it meant it had to go back to a body shop ... which added 4 weeks to an already long delivery time.

When you get your first glimpse of the car either get a detailer to help you, take it to one or borrow one of those handheld light things which show up everything.

Saying that. Not sure what the recourse is as this is common with most cars.

I'm sorry I think a lot here live in a different world and have nothing else to do, too much money or really OCD. It's a car to be driven and that's what Im going to do.

That's great! I'll drive mine AND keep it looking better than 99% of cars on the road. I enjoy driving them and detailing them. I live in the same world as everyone else. Just what I like to do.

Not sure it’s OCD. Surely when you buy something new you would like it to be in good condition on arrival? I understand you or anyone wants to drive your car but you should be excited about receiving it, shouldn’t you? “Handover day” should be something special after such a long wait. Not a complete disappointment leading to the car being sent back or given to a detailer to rectify.
Lotus also charge in excess of £1000 to deliver which includes being detailed. Maybe they should give everyone their £1000 back and say “wash it yourself”
Utter crap.

So I need special lighting, a body shop, a detailer that assists me and the know how on how to "inspect cars properly" to find the flaws in my cars paint job? Shame on you, Lotus!

250 miles in ....

ECU error
Tyre Warning indicator
A/C stopped working
Brake light failure
Condensation in rear lights cluster
Coolant hose leak
Fast wiper issue
Paint issues

This feels like a challenging ownership prospect .....
I would ask for my money back

So I'm sure I don't have a coolant leak - when cold, the car's coolant level looks to be correct. But it still overheats when idling to dangerous levels the car goes into limp mode. Unsure what it could be, and Lotus can't deal with it for 3-4 weeks, so going to have to take it somewhere else this week if I want to keep using it safely :(

Faulty thermostat?

hope so, that, or a sensor, or maybe air in the coolant system are the only things I can see when googling! I'll see what the local porsche specialist has to say about it, they told me they can take a quick look this week, beats waiting 3-4 weeks.

So now we're bringing our Emira issues to Porsche mechanics because Lotus is too busy to handle warranty work for their loyal first customers? :sneaky:

It's gotta be the thermostat if your coolant levels looks OK. There could still be air in the systems somewhere, but it's likely a failed thermostat and/or sensor.

Sounds like air in the cooling system, have had the same issue regularly in my Opel GT.
