Production, as I understand it, doesn't necessarily mean "customer ordered" cars. I believe FINISHED production level cars are what is required for DOT testing and such... and from there, potentially dealer demos in final production trim, and not prototypes with 3D printed components. From the global delays in EVERYTHING lately, and considering past new vehicle launches... it would seem that they're making sure they do this right, but at the same time, staying relatively on track. We're ALL anxious.... myself included, and I'd SURE love some professional level photos of the colors we have yet to see on the actual car (I've had to lock in my order HOPING that the DV is going to make me happy)... but let's keep things in perspective and keep our fingers crossed that the timeline we're on stays the way it is. A few months delay is liveable.... let's hope that's all it is and enjoy these little leaks as we get them.
Spot on. Production started on time. First customer deliveries are on target for June.

Come on. EVERYONE AT LOTUS must know the importance of colour photos by now....
I don't know the specific circumstances of Phil's visit, the photos or their publication. The site is usually closed on a Saturday. Usually visitors are not allowed to take pictures on site. Usually staff aren't allowed to take pictures on site either, but a member of staff posted an Emira picture on his Instagram on Friday.

Matt is well aware we all want to see photos, I've discussed it with him more than once.

They're not test build cars. They are production cars. As Matt explained on Facebook, they take one car all the way through the full production process from start to finish. Then they evaluate it. They see if it needed any extra QA steps or rectification work during build. They look at whether any of the build processes or controls or training or documentation or systems or tooling need adjusting. But the car they have built is a production car.
Oh Tom , dont worry I get that, but many will be thinking day one production, some times nice being agent provocateur, ok you can get more bees with honey..... some time you just need a hammer..... got a reaction :)

Lets hope it pays off.....

But come on, so many issues to sort, more so for early depositers,
Pictures
Warranty,
both car and panel work...... ok so there time, but how about we wait two more months and what come out your not happy with, and you can not just say well it will be whats come before. That two months you could be in another car. Mclaren give 10 years Body.... if lotus dont give that, why not.

Hifi, a more detailed spec..... had hoped one of the video reviews might of mentioned it, or do they have a working system yet...... the one in the Mclaren MP4 - 12C was horrid

I think it’s all very positive that Lotus are getting the quality bang on, for the brand to succeeed they have to remove any reference to the past quality issues.
Ramping up is well known process and not just in car manufacturing.
Matt W must get the displeasure of us not seeing photos perhaps he advocated Phil taking photos and releasing them as an unofficial bypass of marketing.

I'm over it Tom. But it still sucks. If Matt knows he should have put out photos a long time ago...

In comparison the Nissan Z is releasing in spring and they don’t have much of the colors photo’d either

And Nissan is a much larger company, so take it for what it’s worth

There’s a hole in a fence in a yard I passed the other day far away.

My fence also has a hole.

Two fences. Not less than 250 miles from one another have so much in common.

My fence doesn’t care and wants its hole fixed.

My point is there are a lot of whining cry babies for a preproduction car. Nobody forced you to order a car color unseen.

#forthecrybabies

Right. There is a forum for everyone on the internet. All sorts of enthusiasts and fans of brands along with literally everything and anything else.

But there isn’t a scoreboard so points don’t matter nor count.

Some won’t care.
Some we be upset and won’t buy the car.
Some will be upset and still buy the car.

Zero points.

True.... we all have taken the cool aid...... but....a BIG BUT..... Lotus made promises about colour etc to early despositers and not fulfilled there side of the deal..... car are a month behind what they said they would be to start

I’m finding all this a bit arrogant and it’s putting me off the brand.

They know we’re clamouring for pictures yet ignore the requests then take a VIP on tour through the factory and allow him take pictures knowing fully well what’ll happen next.

Lotus haven’t earned the rights to this arrogance.
We’re either of you gents fortunate enough to see the color discs during the tour? Precovid it was much easier to see a car sitting on a lot to see an accurate representation, but with this being a preproduction car, there has to be some understanding of how much knowledge is out there until they’re in the full swing of production

Why wouldn't you post photos you have had since October....

Why does the MD need to "unofficial bypass of marketing". part of me thinks your not wrong about this

Does no one have faith in the Configurator? Haha the colour samples I saw feel exactly like the latest configurator especially on the indoor scene. Not worried, I think they’ll all look better in person.
Mer.... nope, its ok, yes in person the look much better.... it dont handle metallics well, its very complex to render in real time

Took over a week to render this on my machine, and its crap, there redering the image on your screen... ?
