I'd laugh so hard if it doesn't top the OTR price by more than a few quid.
would you?
If you have an emira on order, you would be laughing at yourself in the future loosing quite a bit of money....
which is fine, I laugh at myself all the time.... but I'd rather not in this case :)

I think it'll depreciate in a very similar way to every other Lotus. It'll have OK residuals but you're still going to see 6 month old V6 FEs at around £70k by July next year and heading towards 50% of list by 3 years old.

Interesting comment when you see the prices for Exige 430 cups.

430 cup totally different car made in very small numbers.
Yes trues. But all the 410, 420 & 430 cars are holding money well. Certainly not at 50% depreciation in 3 years. I've been offered a few really good ones but at strong money.

Is it the retailers keeping the pricing high, i.e. wanting to make a lot of profit. on the older Lotus's.

There will be significantly more Emira's made than any Exige. Especially for the UK market.

For other ROW that never got the newer Elise/Exige it will be very hard to predict it's value.

but you are forgetting the basic principle..... people want that which they cannot have....
You cant get a new exige any more....... hence prices are strong. You cant get a new original defender anymore, hence prices are higher than they were new...

When the Exige was still being made, it would be unfair to say they couldnt give them away, but I looked at a brand new 380, basically the same as the final edition 390, and with 200miles on it, I had a 10k discount offered without even haggling. Even from brand new I could get a very good discount... No one wanted them at full price!
Same for the evora, you could pick up a registered one a few months old for 10k less than retail easy....

All that may change now, maybe... maybe not long term though.
The emira is a car they are making or will when they can, by the bucket load.

How can you make a First edition car for the first 2 years of the cars life, thats pathetic! Its not even an edition in reality and its certainly not first after the first few hundred.

Lotus are shooting themselves in the foot for residuals making so many FE's, they are being greedy going to all the extras included and making hay while the sun shines.
prices willl falllll and quite quickly as the several hundred cars hit the market over the next few cold months. Reviews and quality issues will have their effects and within 6 months I agree, you will get an unused car for at BEST retail price if not a bit lower. I'd estimate a 500 mile car, FE, will struggle to get 75k by June...
Same for the Alpines...... and the little Alfa 4C..... except the EMira will be in the UK in MUCH HIGHER quantities, too high for residuals to be decent long term IMO.
maybe the gt4 type car will do better, but ONLY if it is really quick. If the actual GT4 beats it, and I feel it will, then it will fade as fast as it shines.....

you've certainly got a point re the number of FE... I'd guess they have gone over whatever they initially intended, thus over saturated things a bit, kind of loses some of its mystique and allure... obviously still a lovely car, but surely another reason people flocked to it, the exclusivity

Yep, I am :D although the 50% comment surprised me, that's a typical saloon and I don't see that, but who knows.

Love your other comparissons, and as for the little Alfa 4C, what a shame they were not a better car, such promise from Alfa

yes they were not bad, similar to an elise, maybe more special..... and cheaper... day by day

My view is different.

Lotus's primary concern is selling new cars. The pre-owned market contributes nothing to their P&L or balance sheet, the market will decide residuals (Adam Smith, The Wealth Of Nations, 1776)......and don't get fooled by limited editions like the Porker GT3 where ensuring supply is one unit less than demand supports residuals so that the £30k premium v the 911 supports showroom price!

Yes the FE Edition maximises initial returns.....and the claimed 60-week order book supports their approach imv.

What they can influence to return invested cash is the transaction that engages Lotus. It's nice to think they care about owners but the evidence is clear ...... to date.

You caught me on a day when I discover the cost of replacing a 5-year-old car with like for like is £35k which reminded me selling new cars is a transaction business, lol.

Yes, I'm budgeting £1k month depreciation on average for first few years but a lot (=ve and -ve) could change in the meantime. I'm just hoping it is worth the long wait.
