📓 Journals First Magma Emira collected from Hethel

This prefix is only usable in the Lotus Emira Journals forum.
Great post - thanks for sharing the photos and details of your experience. Absolutely lovely spec. Of course I am biased because it's almost identical to mine! It's great to see excellent real world photos of the Magma/BP combo.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing your experience. You can see the dual personality of magma in photo set 3/3.

some most excellent pics. I have the black wheels with same body/caliper colors.

I think you should use that photo in a new thread titled "PPF Gone Badly" just to get a reaction (and of course claim it's factory applied).

On a cold snowy afternoon here in Norfolk I have just got back from collecting my car after it has been receiving some TLC (PPF and ceramic coating)

Car being collected to be taken to DETAIL YOUR EYECANDY

Photos of car at DETAIL YOUR EYECANDY after the work has been done!!

Unfortunately now it is home it doesn't look quite so good thanks to the horrid weather and the dirty roads!

Work done
  • Machine polishing process carried out to significantly enhance gloss and remove any defects (amazing how many light scratches Elliot found on a car which had only been collected from Factory and driven 5 miles home, not sure what this says for quality control at Hethel!)
  • XPEL PPF - Gold Package
  • Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra ceramic coating applied to all paintwork
  • Gtechniq Halo applied to all PPF
  • Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour applied to alloy wheel faces
  • Gtechniq G1 applied to all glass

Highly Recommended

Elliot Stafford
Detail Your Eyecandy

Looks fantastic. I'm just imagining it now with yellow seatbelts and a yellow TDC marker on the steering wheel.

Looks great! I thought Hethel were using Elliot for any PPF and ceramic coating if you ordered them on a factory collection car (rather than BCA)? Or did you want him to do something different to what Lotus were offering?

Had my first "issue" today with the car as well - when collecting it tried to drive off and got a warning message on the screen about brake error and couldn't release the parking brake. Managed to stall it trying to get it to move / get parking brake to release. Couldn't then start car (nothing at all happened when pressing start button), and also couldn't turn ignition off using the start button, it was as if the car had completely 'locked up'. Nothing I did would get the car to turn off or start. After a phone call to an "expert" I had to disconnect the battery negative, leave it off for a minute and then connect it back up, car then started okay, albeit with lots of warning lights etc, but at least it was going, so I could get home. Cause apparently was because it had been at PPF installers for a couple of weeks and not been driven battery was too low. Not an issue I have ever had with a new car before, so my first "Lotus" foible I suspect.

Hmmm - that's slightly alarming since quite a lot of these will probably only see occasional weekend use.

I cycle to work so all my vehicle mileage is very low.

Sold my Audi S6 last year because it was costing £1k a month - and I did 200 miles from 1st Jan to 1st April.

Expensive miles those...

Oddly the cars with 'quirks' seem to be the ones we become attached to - it gives them - err - 'character'! 🤦‍♂️😂

Yes, not ideal and not something I have ever experienced in any other car but thankfully quickly rectified. Think issue was because after collection I didn't want to drive it until it had the PPF done so it had been sitting not used for several days, and then whilst being PPF'd had only been moved small distances in the workshop.

The manual does cover the issue - (have copied extract below for others) - although at the time it happened with error messages on display about brakes and the fact you couldn't even turn the ignition off, which is a bit odd if battery is low! - it seemed more than just "starting difficulties" - will see how it goes.

18 days is not a long time! There must be something draining the battery (I don't mean as a fault).

Has it got the tracker fitted (or a tracker?)

I have an Audi S5 Cab sat in my garage - that can go 3 months without being used. If it's outside, it's not a problem and always starts. If it's inside however, the tracker tries harder to get a signal, and this does indeed drain the battery.

I leave it charging on a smart charger (one that cycles the battery) now without issue.

Suspect I'll be doing the same - in 2024 or 2025 - whenever it turns up. 🤦‍♂️

Agreed, yes it has the tracker fitted, but apparently even without the tracker it is because it has so many different electrical systems which are running in the background (I think off top of my head Scott said 46 or similar - may have got that figure totally wrong) which all drain the battery. I know it recommends having it connected to a trickle charger but we don't all have garages to park it in, or driveways with a power source handy so not always as easy as the manual thinks!
