I’m now on my 3rd Mass Airflow Sensor

It’s been 6 months since getting my first Mass Airflow Sensor replaced, now the second one has failed. Anyone else having this problem? If so, any suggestions?

Not pleased with repeat issues…they are often indicative of larger ones. If it happens again, I may offload it.
 
When I was younger I use to put K&N filters in my cars, I had repeated MAS issues in all my cars with non-oem air filters. Tossed all the K&Ns and haven't had another MAS issue in 20 years. You're probably not running a K&N,, but perhaps you need a prefilter to help keep your intake clean.
 
Good idea regarding the pre cleaner but you shouldn’t be getting this issue on OEM. The filters and nothing special and conform to the standard Toyota specifications for the engine warranty.
I agree with the point on running performance oiled filter although I only had the issue after re oiling my K&N probably due to the fact I had sprayed on too much.

Since you're tracking a lot (I assume), maybe it's a heat issue? Try some heat reflect foil tape around the wiring going into the MAF, and even that part of the housing itself. MAF's generally don't fail like that unless something is getting on them, or excessive temps.
 
Might be worth getting an auxiliary display that can display the OBD data. It would be good to have some additional data when the car is being pushed.

As suggested above, tracking the car could be the reason for/connected to these repeated issues. I mean, I’ve not heard of MAF issues, yet you’ve had repeated issues, so there must be a root cause.

Did you ever get a look at one of these bad MAF sensors?

Although I’m on track frequently (I have a dedicated track car), I’ve only done 3 track days in the Emira…and the first MAF sensor failed before my first track day - just from break-in driving. Engine temps never rose above 200°F on any track day.

I did not get to see the first failed MAF sensor…Car isn’t ready yet, so I’ll ask if they have it so I can take pics.

Okay then this is extremely unusual. MAF's just don't fail like that. I would lean towards faulty wiring; maybe an intermittent short or ground fault. Something is going on between the MAF and the ECU. Check the connections; check for corrosion in the wiring connectors.

Good idea…If this MAF sensor also fails, then I will offer your suggestion. (Got the car back this morning).

Might also want to 'mark' the new MAF with a sharpie to make sure they are actually replacing vs cleaning.
 
Do you know what code(s) the car throws when the MAF goes bad?
I’ve gotten two separate P0111 codes within my first 1000 miles and I’m thinking I have a MAF issue as well since it’s an air temp sensor code and that’s located in the MAF

I didn’t ask the service department. The dealership is conveniently less than 10 miles from my house and I don’t have a code reader.
 
Any other additional information on this issue? I have about 650 miles and have experienced this warning three times to date. Always clears after a restart. Finally got a code reader on the car before restarting and have a pending P0111 code. Had been driving on the highway at high speeds but not high RPM since I am still breaking in.

I still get the P0111 code occasionally. I can almost trigger it on command with a sequence of drive mode changes which is interesting.

I have my first service appointment this week, I’ll bring it up to them.

I suggest bringing the car in for service. Not worth f-ing around.
