i4 versus V6 sound … from Goodwood ….. OR NOT :(

Based off footage I’m going to say it’s piped in…. Which is whatever honestly. Question is, is a i4 lotus worth $100,000?
This will be up to each prospective customer to decide what each car model on the market is worth. In my opinion the 2.0 AMG - I4 still have its own advantages (over the V6 Supercharged), so it depends on which features, what kind of sound from engine/exhaust and what kind of gear system: faster dual clutch or a more emotional full manual gear shift. And remember that other cars are going up in price too, along with the general inflation

You could make a perfectly valid argument for the higher tech, modern modern I4 being better value than the 3.5l V6, when the I4 is cheaper. I’d be very surprised that the parts costs for the v6 with MT is higher than the I4 with DCT from AMG.

Saying that Lotus spends time and money converting the MT transmission, plus fitting the SC is true, but it’s only because they are using parts that were never intended for this application. This is inherently a compromise and adds additional unnecessary costs to the package. Nothing wrong with, it just isn’t as cost effective as a ready to roll package.

All 3 options have their pros and cons and it is down to personal preference which rocks your boat and fits with your life. Personally I’ve ordered the I4, and the reason for that is that the V6 MT would have cost me a 30% premium over the I4. That is putting it into almost base 992 price bracket and a big part of the appeal of the Emira is the good value it offers for a fairly exotic sports car. Additionally, whilst I would be fine with a MT, but my wife wouldn’t and I’d like her to have the possibility to enjoy the Emira on occasion, if she fancies (and never puts a mark on it :p).

A fruitier exhaust note would be nice, but I’ll suffer the I4 just fine I expect (y)

I prefer the old V6 and supercharger and competitive pricing over a newly developed modern power plant which will make the car cost 2 as much. It's a lovely combo with the Lotus chassis.

My idea of the ideal Emira would be to find a crashed V6...fit a Yaris GR 3 cylinder, take out a LOT of weight and things you don't need and build the best Emira possible. 600HP and 1000 kgs....

Btw V6 will always sound better than 4 in line. The big difference will not be the engine but the turbocharge in combo with DCT...that is what people should be talking about, not sound. i4 will NEVER win on sound, simply because of its engine lay out.

Interesting Instagram post on the i4 but may be little bit of sales patter here!

As I said...i4 is all about how it charges and shifts...it's the opposite of v6 manual. Sound is crap, just take it for granted.

Thank you! Been asking Lotus for this for months.
Here’s the sound comparison

Nimbus Grey i4 and Hethel Yellow V6. The i4 sounds good and better than I was expecting. The V6 sounds great and I prefer it, but they’re both good.

It’s only an iPhone video but I think gives a good impression of the differences.

thats because it is
Which will help inside the car but I get asked on a daily basis by kids on bikes (mostly with thier phones out) to give it a rev, which gets thumbs up or fist pump 😄
guess i4 drivers will either have to wind the window down for them or basically just be more mature than me 😬🤦

I see nothing wrong with revving up a sports car to anyone who wants to hear it roar (within reason of course, not in a neighborhood at night kind of thing). After all, aren't these things basically toys to be enjoyed? If that's immature then I guess I'll be a kid forever like you @Magicman :)
