All about what you want from it I guess I'd sooner have the noise and the 400bhp. Having lived with it for 4mths the power is spot on for fun on UK roads. The China versions are running 400hp. Also i can deal with not as nice a noise if i get more power.
Agreed. I have to admit I was underwhelmed at first while listening through my computer speakers. Once I put on some quality headphones I could definitely pick up some pops and crackles and other subtle nuances I didn't hear before. Very similar to the much more expensive boosted supercars of late. Looking forward to getting some higher quality audio when reviews start arriving.Actually sounds acceptable
That’s true, honestly I’m probably going to dump my i4 preorder for a 2018 570s or 2018 R8 RWS. After the price hike i can’t justify buying a 100k i4 while i can spend 30k more and have an actual super car. For me to stay with lotus that first test drive needs to wow.All about what you want from it I guess I'd sooner have the noise and the 400bhp. Think the dct will give it a more modern junior super car feel though.
you make a valid point. That’s true, honestly I’m probably going to dump my i4 preorder for a 2018 570s or 2018 R8 RWS. After the price hike i can’t justify buying a 100k i4 while i can spend 30k more and have an actual super car. For me to stay with lotus that first test drive needs to wow.
Could you post the video? There’s a video filmed from inside the i4 going up the hill, it’s on the Lotus Emira owners group page (Facebook)
Recorded by someone from Lotus, Naples. It actually doesn’t sound too bad from within the car.
I could give a fuck about the noise, i had a 718 GTS H4 in 2019, loved the car and had it tuned to over 450hp, but i paid 90k for that out the door. 99,999 starting for an I4 lotus with a detuned AMG engine, possibly questionable cooling, and lotus quirk is a bit of a stretch if you ask me. Especially when i can get a 570s which will also be a pain in the dick for 30k more but will at least have over 200 more HP stock. It even the R8 RWS which is substantially more rare than even the Emira will be.you make a valid point.
This could mean that engine/exhaust sound gets picked up by mikes, amplified, and reproduced by speakers inside the car. This has been hinted about previously as a possibility. I personally would definitely want a switch to be able to turn such effects off; or else I will have a car electronics expert cut the wire and disconnect this sound feed. There’s a video filmed from inside the i4 going up the hill, it’s on the Lotus Emira owners group page (Facebook)

Based off footage I’m going to say it’s piped in…. Which is whatever honestly. Question is, is a i4 lotus worth $100,000?This link is to ‘Lotus of Naples’ Emira I4 at Goodwood 2023. In my opinion, the engine sound may either be electronically generated and reproduced over speakers inside the vehicle, or possibly picked up by microphones, amplified and reproduced by speakers inside car. We will not know unless there is more access to the car (or if someone at Lotus speaks)
