i4 versus V6 sound … from Goodwood ….. OR NOT :(

Not so bad!

On the hill climb, the Emira i4 simply sounds like a turbocharged sports car, honestly. Compare it to a Ferrari 488, for example (skip to 1:01):

I actually prefer the subtlety of the i4. I tend to think of loud cars as a bit 'last season' now... Although I openly acknowledge I may well be in the minority here!!

This video is the best representation of the sound of the i4. In the 1st runs this morning there were 2 V6’s followed by the i4 as shown in the video. It also ran later in the day. So it tells us what you already know - if you’re standing outside then the V6 sounds way better. However if you’re sat inside the car it is different again. Anyway Goodwood was a great day out as usual with some amazing cars. I also enjoyed talking to both Geoff Dowding and Russell Carr on the Lotus stand later in the day and good to see both Tom & Roland.

Yeah... all my concern about the I4 being a better engine doesn't matter when it sounds like that and is tied to an auto.

For better or worse I'm glad we have some official AMG i4 audio in multiple settings, thank you everyone who attended and got media in!

This was basically the only morsel of new information we got from Goodwood I think.

In no way has it any presence when at low revs, sounded bland, the engine bay is worse it’s all plastic. Didn’t hear it dive off as there was a crash ahead and that stopped the runs.

Ps have a v6 and it’s a keeper plus I’m in for a i4 regardless, seeing so much silent power today was awful, we need drama not fast boring cars

Here’s the sound comparison

Nimbus Grey i4 and Hethel Yellow V6. The i4 sounds good and better than I was expecting. The V6 sounds great and I prefer it, but they’re both good.

It’s only an iPhone video but I think gives a good impression of the differences.

Hmmmm....I see what you're saying. When I watched the stream, though, the commentators clearly were talking about it being the new I4. Confusing for sure.

They did a mistake.
I4 runs in a Dark Grey car I saw on a FB Emira group, and bad news… it sounds no good

I'm with you, I like the sound of the i4 also. More a modern turbo'd car than the raw V6, but then that's exactly what it is, and what I expected.

Once upon a time I was in the i4 Emira camp upon reservation deposit. But then I realized I’d have to wait longer, I wanted an engaging manual transmission, and I wanted a glorious sound. I wanted something engaging to drive not something that sounded boring, I already have a Tesla for that. I called the very day after paying my reservation to be put on the v6 list instead.

And now a FE i4 costs $100K.
