If you sold your EMIRA what’s next?

In some respects you're probably right. Its not the car I need but its the car I want. An M2 or something similar would probably be better in the offering of performance and practicality, but then I use the Emira or just look at the damn thing and I cant imagine swapping it so I just swallow the costs.

My current thought pattern is to save enough over the next 12 months that when the time comes to replace the BMW, the monthly on its replacement wont really be noticable.

i hear you.

Its not so much the Emira in isolation, its the fact I'm running two cars. At some point, I'm going to have to replace the BMW (athough arguably with it being a diesel its good for another 100,000 miles yet) because at times I need something more practical than the Emira. I cant do a run to the recycling centre with a boot load of cardboard or put the dog in the back. Add in an extra £600 a month for a BMW replacement and then it opens up a few options.

Okay, the 911 might not be ideal but I'd be able to use the bigger space behind the seats but I do think I'd be underwhelmed by the 911 from a steering and handling perspective. The build quality and residuals might be better but I'm not convinced its a better drive.
It seems like you had convinced yourself enough reasoning to move on from Emira. Wish you the best

I'll admit that my wait for a base model has me eyeing up manual Gallardos and 360s as possible replacements but Im not sure nice ones will get low enough in price. That said, after the Emira, I hope I can just afford my childhood poster car and get a Diablo SV.

Sorry bro but that's delulu.

The only place you're going to get sub 3 0-60 is in a spreadsheet.

Agreed. Even with 700hp the V6 Emira would not be sub 3.

The issue is the manual gear-change.
That alone adds half a second to any 0-60 time.
If the V6 had a decent DCT it would almost certainly do sub 4 out of the box, and perhaps with some weight loss and modest power increase maybe down to mid 3s, but that’s about it.

With the manual gear-change I’d be very impressed if it got below high 3s even with all of the available mods on board.

So the problem is a BMW 435D plus and Emira is too much cost and not enough practicality? I think a 992 Carrera 4 GTS or fully loaded M4 competition are going to feel too compromised. If you love the Emira why not keep it and downgrade the 435D? Practical cars can be had cheap and the Emira will easily scratch the sporty itch.

I know any car I'd replace the Emira with would be a downgrade. The Emira represents the pinnacle for me; my magnum opus and swan song. I can't think of any other vehicle that's not millions of dollars that can top the Emira in every category (styling, responsiveness, manual, feedback, grip, comfort, etc.) I will attempt to hold it forever because it's downhill from here.

I love the Emira, but let’s not get nuts. There are sub-million dollar cars that I would trade for. There may not be sub 200K cars though.

If new, I’d throw a few more bucks at a 911 gts targa for sure.

If old, hands down this if I can find an unmolested low mileage one.

I think our Emiras are bargains for what they are.

Doesn’t the new 992.2 911T one have shorter gearing and a move to the more engaging 6 speed from the 7 speed?
I had no idea! I looked about 3-months ago and the online configurator didn’t even show a manual transmission was available.

Might be an expensive Spring…..

Absolutely not. Its just the arguments that go on in my head. I bought the Emira as an 'occasion car'. An end of week reward for a busy and hard week at work etc. Its just the sensible side of my head feels the need to chime in and say 'you're wasting money on something you rarely use'.

No, its not a problem now, it'll be a problem when time comes to replace the BMW. The 435d was paid off years ago and only costs me about £80 a month not including fuel. My thought process at the moment is to save 20k and throw it down on a used M240i in a year or 18 months time. The monthly then would probably only be about £250. That would give me the practicle and winter car option. I run the BMW on winters to give me that bad weather, ice, salt etc practicality.
