Is this foam trim supposed to be on the hood?

This long piece of foam trim (see attached image) entirely under the back of the hood is coming loose on one side and is very easy to pull off on both sides. Is this something that should have been removed before delivery or is there really an intentional cheap crappy foam strip under the hood? If so, what is its function??? Thanks for any info

I have that piece of foam firmly in place. It’s positioned slightly beyond the plastic trim, but well behind the edge of the hood, so it’s not visible. It sounds like yours may have come loose.

I’m guessing it’s the seal for the removable hood. Otherwise, it would squeak and rattle to no end. If it is, it should be an easy fix to reattach or replace it. Perhaps some who has opened the hood can tell us?

About 100mm of mine on the drivers side came loose within days of getting the car.
I stuck it back down with double sided tape.

The most odd part of it is that it doesn’t appear to be sealing or protecting anything. It is not firmly pressed against the plastic behind it (at least not on my car) and if it’s meant to keep out water that makes no sense because there are vents right there. But, maybe it’s close enough to the plastic vent piece that it does prevent some degree of rattle.

The foam piece on the right underside side of my hood blew off at highway speed…it was just replaced under warranty when I brought the car in for several issues. Without the foam piece, there is a substantial gap that would allow debris to pass. I’m guessing that is its purpose.
