Is this foam trim supposed to be on the hood?

This long piece of foam trim (see attached image) entirely under the back of the hood is coming loose on one side and is very easy to pull off on both sides. Is this something that should have been removed before delivery or is there really an intentional cheap crappy foam strip under the hood? If so, what is its function??? Thanks for any info

I have that piece of foam firmly in place. It’s positioned slightly beyond the plastic trim, but well behind the edge of the hood, so it’s not visible. It sounds like yours may have come loose.

What is it for?
Seems a bit of a feeble material to have and be exposed to the elements. Surely it will soak up water when washing and bad weather?

I’m guessing it’s the seal for the removable hood. Otherwise, it would squeak and rattle to no end. If it is, it should be an easy fix to reattach or replace it. Perhaps some who has opened the hood can tell us?

About 100mm of mine on the drivers side came loose within days of getting the car.
I stuck it back down with double sided tape.

The most odd part of it is that it doesn’t appear to be sealing or protecting anything. It is not firmly pressed against the plastic behind it (at least not on my car) and if it’s meant to keep out water that makes no sense because there are vents right there. But, maybe it’s close enough to the plastic vent piece that it does prevent some degree of rattle.

The foam piece on the right underside side of my hood blew off at highway speed…it was just replaced under warranty when I brought the car in for several issues. Without the foam piece, there is a substantial gap that would allow debris to pass. I’m guessing that is its purpose.
Okay this makes a lot of sense. The amount of debris in general thrown up from the various vents (especially noticeable with all the broken fall leaves these days) definitely seems like something they may have tried to reduce. Thanks all for the info

I had the exact same issue after a few drives. The end on the foam piece just did not stick like it should. A very small piece of 3m automotive tape fixed the issue.

I think the problem is that the venting of the hot air off of the radiator weakens the adhesive holding the foam piece, causing it to fail.
Makes sense, and the fact that it's made of foam allows it to soak water, which can't help much to maintain long-lasting adhesion either. I'm not sure if it's actually designed that way (will check on the next opening of the hood), but my foam trim is not wedged in at the edges, rather it seems to be wedged in for about 3/4 of the hood's mid section. The foam trim on my Emira is still firmly in place, although I suspect that it's a matter of time until those edges begin to unglue too. If/when that happens however, replacing it with another OEM foam strip, in my view, would only buy a bit more time, until it would become loose again. So Instead, I may try replacing it with an auto D-shape "rubber" seal with a stronger double-sided tape. Something like this...

It's the first thing I noticed when I picked up my car a couple of weeks back - mainly that it's not stuck on straight - or curved, in that it doesn't match the contour of the car.

I'll check when I get home from work that it's actually stuck on properly.
