oh FFS !! (v6 vs i4 debate in my head)

I was totally 4cyl/dct. And then I heard the v6 and the (Mercedes version) 4 pot

V6 ever since. Easiest decision thus far. Only if I hear the actual 4pot sound as epic would I consider changing and that’s very unlikely

It's your cash - spend it how you like (hopefully Lotus will have tuned some of the pops and farts out though...) ;)

I know.... that video is not helping me..... The original Harry video where he passengers in the dev car - the test driver says the i4 sounds really good - but with a ppf will it ever be able to.........

He wasn’t going to say it sounds rubbish though was he. Perhaps Dan drives a Halfords tuned corsa 😏

You and I are in the Same boat….

I4 = quicker shift, less hassle in traffic, more focus on road, lighter and quicker. Less noise but more mpg for touring. AMG engine with 8 sp DCT.. Lower VED. Upgradable with a tune.
V6 = huge emotional connection of noise and manual box. Toyota reliability. proven tech in a lotus. No ADAS. 3 cats but no PPF. Higher VED. lower mpg for touring. Slightly slower than i4 (prob). Max’s out BHP. Toyota engine & Avensis gearbox!?

Same debate in my head too….

How is this a debate? It's a no-brainer for me. :ROFLMAO:

I'm 100% on board with this and is what I'm going for:

I've been i4 all the way but totally get the conundrum. many of the i4 aspects are appealing but for me the noise is a massive part of the connection. I had the previous CLA45 and it makes a few nice noises so the i4 should be OK in that respect though I'm DESPERATELY trying to find a way of keeping my current V8 Mustang as well as I absolutely bloody love that thing cause of the sheer stupidity and the noise :)

This car for me, is about emotions. The car I was most interested in as my last gasoline new car was the new C63. That car will have a special version of the M139 with an electric assisted turbo good for about 450hp, and another 200HP from a hybrid system. In a 4 door form factor, it would have been a very practical car with madness levels of performance. But a couple of days of learning of the existence of the Emira, I placed a deposit for it, planning on the V6 manual. If you are interested in the emotional aspects of this car, not just when convenient but on a constant basis, then the V6 manual is the right choice. If you want a bit off the edge and more practicality, then I4. To me, the I4 and DCT does not win me over on purely superior technical and performance basis.

Get the V6 with manual. It has a limited run, and a V6 with manual will have no trouble being sold in 2 or 3 years. Then you can get the i4, which by that time will have any issues ironed out if there are any, and maybe even have a higher performance version. It's also going to take a year or two after production for aftermarket go-fast stuff to start showing up for the i4, so by the time you get one there might be more choices in that area.

There's also the possibility that you may decide to keep the V6. There's going to be plenty of i4's with DCT, as that's all they're going to make, and they'll be making them until 2030. V6 production ends in 2026.
That’s a “Sound” plan…. (Pun intended)

Having driven the 458 with the 7 SPD DCT, If I could do over agian, I would probably go with the I4 because I enjoyed the 458's DCT so much. But I did place a order for the V6 in May of 2021 so thats what I stuck with.

What about the fact that the manual V6 is the only model with the mechanical LSD. Another big tick in the V6 box for me.
yup - really leaning towards the v6 now....

I think ultimately the v6 would be more of a collectors cars down the road. 🤔
But Damn, I love the idea of an AMG powered Lotus. My guess is that there won’t be another

Get both! 😀

I bloody wish.... I know the i4 is going to be great car... just think I will regret not having the v6 more..... I am not interested in upping the power on the i4 either - did that with my exige and its been a labour of love (and money)

I think it comes down to what you want the car for - both the intended use and how you want it to make you feel.

I'm lucky that my commute isn't by car, so every mile in my Lotus is for pleasure. I'm not overly bothered (but know others are) about the differences in purchase price, VED rate, emissions, mpg, service costs between the V6 and i4. I've driven the V6 IPS and other DCT cars and they're fun in their own way. But I prefer a manual for my fun cars, it's part of the experience of driving them. So too is the noise. I can't remember the last time I had the radio on in the Evora - I've usually got the windows open listening to the exhaust.

If your Emira is going to be a daily driver or track car then your needs will be different. Same if you have budget or running cost concerns.

Buy the one that will make you yearn to get out and drive it.
