UK deposit to order checkout to delivery process

I don’t know where you are based, but I think you mentioned in another thread that you are collecting from Silverstone? Not far from me so if you do need a lift or something falls through I’d be happy to help!
Thank you for the offer.👍

Do you almost feel you have to do it, go through with it, because you've been on this journey for so long. I need some more inspiration from Harry, after all he's driven it as a touring car to Milan so he must know the aggravating features of the car and the good ones above other cars he has owned. Could his actual car be a long term loaner from Lotus to help with positive publicity?
Does anyone else think that maybe Harry has been assigned head of PR, and maybe that was the reason for fast tracking him for early delivery 🤔

WELL, finally....
@Scruff111S you beat me to it... but at deceased @Leonard I beat you to it (I think)
I just got my call and was offered 2 dates, one before xmas, which was a nice effort, and one in January, which actually makes more sense.
22nd dec and 5th january... where dealer would receive a few days before these dates.
So, feel free to correct my thinking, or ignore me.... but my thought process is the following:
.
while it would be nice before xmas, its actually a pain in the neck and expensive flights to get back to the UK to collect the car so I will try to hold my "excitement" or what is left of the shreds of it.
January delivery will mean a 23 registration year although still on a 72 plate, which I know, whether you disagree or not, does have an extra value for most car dealers the day you want to sell it and that 500 odd pounds for the sake of 1 week, as I had disgusted/discussed several weeks ago, is in my mind worth the wait... .that and cheaper flights, channel tunnel crossings etc.

If I clean all my UK / EU accounts I get to be 300 pounds over what I owe lotus, which means I need to go cap in hand somewhere to beg for a few thousand so as not to leave myself in danger of being overdrawn.... how embarrassing, but Im an adult, I can do embarrassing. If anyone wants to offer..... dont all fall silent at once.

I need to decide and let Lotus CS know so they can get their other dept to raise the invoice which needs to be paid 3 days before delivery to the dealer (not collection date).
THEN I need to decide if I take that car over here to Spain in January and enjoy it... or not take it and instead sell it...... And then based on that, decide about the Spanish plated car which should theoretically be delivered in January too.
decisions / decisions
I dont feel as excited as I should I have to say....... Lotus CS admitted, without too much prompting, there have been some teething problems, all of which we know about on here and none of which individually detract from my excitement, but the whole overall experience does.

Expecting my call this week. Definitely only want the car in January as I have no funds now!
Yes, a '23 reg might be nicer
Depends when they actually register it though.
If they do it at PDI that could be several weeks before handover.
And do you really care if it’s registered on (eg) 20th Dec or 5th Jan?
It’s still a ‘23 model year car on a 72 plate.
Certainly doesn’t bother me.

I doubt they will register the car until they get the money.

I had three dates given to me dec 22nd, jan 3rd and jan 5th. I elected to go for the 5th to double ensure 2023 registration (on 72 plate though I do have my own plate to put on it).

Expect will have to pay end dec or 3rd jan (hope that gives enough time) to ensure delivery on the 5th to B&C before it goes off for ceramic detailing.

it will arrive to BnC 1 or 2 days before the handover dates they have proposed you and you must pay 3 days before that date... this is at least what I have been told.
HOWEVER, you cannot pay until you get the invoice.... and that could arrive late as has been the case with others... almost incredible, but apparently true...
You would think they would simply send the invoice now... what the heck can the reason for a delay be..same month.... not different tax year or anything, they should want the money asap....

As ever ass (misspelt intended!) clear as mud! You gotta love Lotus and their sales systems
We'll all get here...in the end! if not cancelled obv

Mine was registered on the date I was given for collection.
It was delivered to Bell and Colvill a day before that, but not registered.

I reckon if you have a Jan delivery date, they'll register then.

I wonder if this has been discussed before, if so I do apologise. But, registering for a number plate is this done by your local agent, with the corresponding local area plate.

Or

If done by home delivery, who registers it. BCA in Oxfordshire, if so does it take local Oxfordshire plate?

Or

If Lotus pick up, does it have Norfolk plate?

Does anyone know?🤷🏻‍♂️

I am quite surprised by the whole discussion about who and when registers a new car. In our country and similarly in Germany, I have to grant a power of attorney to someone or a company. Thus, I know who is registering the car for me and I can also determine the date when the car is registered (it cannot happen before the power of attorney is granted).

If I pick up the car in 2023, I will only sign the power of attorney in January and I am sure that it will not be registered in 2022. (Of course, I can also register the car myself, i.e. not give anyone the power of attorney).

How is it in the UK? Thanks in advance for someone explaining this to me.

as mentioned in my post, the car is registered at time of delivery, not PDI, that would be a mistake as PDI could find errors which take weeks or months to fix. My car will be delivered to dealer around 2/3rd of January and registration form sent of around then, before or even at hand over.
No one will have a V5 when they collect their car, thats normal and it can take weeks... my ariel nomad took 8 weeks... and I travelled over france and spain with it before ever having a V5. UK police stopped me at the channel tunnel and recognised the issue as normal for new cars...

For UK cars Lotus handle registrations centrally, regardless of how you are taking delivery. Hence why we’re seeing all the customer cars without personal plates having an AO (Norwich) prefix.

Thanks for confirming that.

Every (non private plate) car I’ve seen so far has been “AO72 xxx”, so Lotus must be doing the registrations,

How is it in the UK? Thanks in advance for someone explaining this to me.

The dealer (or in this case, Lotus) sends a registration document to the DVLA, the government agency. The dealer normally has a list of available registrations, picks one, and allocates it to the car. Lotus will have a list of “AO” registrations to give out.

Thanks for that Tom.

Before when dealing direct with your Car dealer, a choice was given. I guess you have no choice in registration number now. Not that it matters to me, but it was always an interesting procedure.

Finally got the check out email yesterday. Doesn’t look like Nov build, Dec delivery is likely to happen but that’s ok, what’s another few days. Deposit was placed back in April/May 2021 and it’s almost exactly a year since I sold my Evora.
Given I have opted for factory collection and planned to get the train to Hethel, perhaps Jan collection was always on the cards. (For non UK residents, here in the UK we are starting several weeks of union led strike action on the railways).

At least mine will be local! :) I'll put my personal plate on after delivery.

If the Norwich registration area runs out of AO's in any 6-month period (across all registrations for all manufacturers and there's only as maximum of 24x24x24=13,824 variations as I and Q aren't used - and that's without taking off any valuable, funny or offensive combinations which are not issued) they also have AP AR AS AT and AU to use - there are still some comedy AR51's around here.....

Cue someone UK Emira/Eletre numbers won't hit the tipping point! :ROFLMAO:

Will Lotus share the list of AO23xxx options available

So it could be possible that you could have your initials as the last 3 letters if it’s available

In the case of Harry’s car, I can only presume it was not a coincidence that he got FHM, For Harry Metcalfe
