USA/Canada Delivery Thread

Thank you. I had read that thread, was just curious about your actual experience applying it over such a long distance. I’ll probably meander the B-roads most of the way.
Just take an exit ramp every ten to fifteen minutes and then get right back on the highway.

I don't think that would follow the spirit of a break-in. The point is to spend an equal amount of time at all engine speeds below 4k rpm. Doing what you described would still have you sitting at near constant rpm 99% of the drive. How much of this really makes any difference is anyone's guess (maybe it's all negligible), but if I'm making the effort to do a break-in, might as well do it as proper I can.

So turning on AC vibrates car? In what world is that normal? I have literally never felt that in any vehicle. Any other “normal” things the car has that most cars don’t? LOL! The car is absolutely beautiful but some of these issues people are pointing out are concerning. I must seriously consider the extended warranty.
Be careful during flu season. Car might get sick and start coughing, consume more fuel, and only run 200hp.

Then take every exit? Bonus: you'll get it done sooner.

I don’t have 1000 miles to cover on my drive home, but I do have a little over 200. My plan is to use Google Maps and select “avoid highways” in the options. It adds about 2 hours of drive time to an already 3 hour drive, but it allows for a lot of travel on surface streets with little towns in between to vary the RPMs. Might be more fun than the highway too.

I plan on doing this too. tho I may change my mind halfway thru. 4 hours is about my driving limit when I start to dislike it, normally. maybe with the lotus it will be different. i still havent driven one myself

Most states in my experience will charge you sales tax on a vehicle if you move within the first 6 months of ownership. You can get around this if you keep the initial state's registration for 6 months, so all you have to pay is registration in the new state. That's a risk because you're typically required to update your plates long before that legally speaking, unless you're military. It gets complicated because the laws vary with each state, but most will only charge you the difference in tax. WA and CA have similar sales tax rates, WA probably a little more since they don't have income tax, especially if you're moving near Seattle/Bellevue. It's around 10.2% if I remember correctly.
Wait 6 months and then transfer the plate. You can register the goodtogo (WA specific toll) with out-of-state license plates. Should be hustle free. I believe CA tax on cars are cheaper than WA (10.25% for Greater Seattle Residents)

This is going to be incredibly specific, but has anyone experienced buying a new car then moving to a new state in 1-2 months?

My current research tells me I need to pay sales tax and registration on the state I take delivery on (CA) then I have to pay use tax and registration on the state I'm moving to (WA). Does that seem about right? Anything I'm missing?
I would just call the tax office and ask them.

I believe Lotus of DC and Lotus of Washington DC is one in the same. In fact, they are located in Maryland.

I called a licensing office and they said that it doesn't matter if you register the vehicle when you move or 6 months later. They look at the dates when the vehicle was bought on the purchase agreement, when you become a Washington state resident, and determine if you need to pay use tax on those two dates.

Boo that's at least 1k of taxes going to WA state.

So do what you need to to effectively delay your state residency. There are ways

Nah I'd rather start WA state residency asap and take advantage of that sweet sweet 0% state income tax vs CA's ~10% income tax, given that 10% of 1-2 month's worth of pay is greater than the 1k in use tax I need to pay. Sucks but it is what it is.

If you're in King County, get ready for an eye-opening yearly reminder about how much it costs to build a train that nobody will ride. But on the bright side, at least we don't have state income tax.

This is what I would do. Have your CA dealer truck the car to WA and deliver there. You bypass CA sales tax entirely.

You can change your drivers license without change your license plate, man.

I cannot believe it the car is here. I was tucked all the way in the trailer and I did not know if that one was mine.
Now I have to wait for them to do PDI before I can take delivery. Monday could be the date. This feels surreal.
P.S. the car looks really dirty with a little bit of rust on the super charger. They need to do a proper detail before delivery.

May 17 truck. I asked last Friday whether I could collect the car on Wednesday or Thursday. No commitment from PP on a timeline. Not doing ceramic or PPF through them. No timeline and trying to schedule a ride to Bellevue and an appointment with a local small business ceramic shop is frustrating. Let's all hope there are no significant delivery issues on top of the delays.

Yeah that was one of the options I was considering, but I wanted to break the car in as much as I can before the move while I still have access to Boardwalk Lotus' service department. Plus I'm probably going to take delivery of the car within the week or maybe early next week since it already arrived at the dealer last week, and I won't move to WA until end of June, plus add 1 more week before I get a WA driver's license and be able to register a car to WA.

The CA paper plates that the dealer issues would probably expire in a matter of months, right? Plus it doesn't matter if I change plates now or a year from now, they'll still look at the date I purchased the car and the date I become a WA resident, see that I bought the car <90 days of being a WA resident, and charge me the use tax when I register it with WA.
