What's everyone's placeholder given this long wait??

Not comparable to the Emira in any way, but I am having a great time with this placeholder, and staying very hopeful about the future of sports EVs:

I love these, how does it handle at the track?
Much better than I expected, even in tight autox courses. The suspension is superb, rear-wheel steering is hugely beneficial. On track, the issue is the brakes, not up to par for lapping for 30 mins; however, the RS version (mine is not) has the carbide brakes, which solves the problem.

After owning this '88 "bad Boy" for 28 years, I put my Emira deposit down last November. I still love looking at and driving this fine example, but fell more in love with the Emira after I first saw it in the raw flesh

Like others here I couldn’t take the wait any longer. August 2021 depositor. To get me through the wait I went and bought this 2020 Cayman S last week. Still had two year warranty plus 2 year CPO warranty so figured it was a good way to hedge my bet.

This may be a controversial opinion, and I’m happy to be persuaded otherwise, but I find the Cayman a bit dull and uninspiring. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and everything but it really doesn’t make me desire it in the same way as the Emira.

I agree for sure but decided to give the cayman a try since I am tired of waiting and wanted a fun car for this summer. It has impressed me so far plus the misses prefers the Porsche. The looks are much better in the Emira but I do have my concerns on reliability and the nearest dealer to service it is a 12 hour drive away. There is a local Porsche centre here so we will see where my heads at when it finally comes time to spec my Emira.

The Cayman looks better than the Emira and you have concerns about reliability? I think you have that backwards…🤔

I have been enjoying my placeholder (2017 718 Boxster S). Very capable car and has not given me any problems since I purchased it last November, around 4,000 miles ago. My local Porsche dealer is only 10 minutes away, but the closest Lotus dealer is almost 2 hours away.

My limited seat time in the Emira told me that the Emira is the more exciting car to drive. The Emira was fun at all speeds...fun to drive at 5/10ths which unfortunately I cannot say is true with my Boxster. The Boxster really comes alive when driving it more aggressively but seems a bit boring at a slow to medium pace. With that said, overall I am very impressed with the Boxster and think it is a wonderful package. If I have the garage space when the Emira eventually comes, I may be tempted to keep the Boxster a bit longer.

I know I am going to go off-topic here, but...

I grew up in the 80s, and my perspective has been heavily influenced by WRC and F1. In the 90s, sportscar racing became more influential I think, particularly when FIA killed Group B in WRC (for good reasons of course). The pictures I have been left with from the 80s, 90s, and beginning of the new millennium, are related to cars like the Audi Quatro, MB 190-16, BMW E30/E36/E46 M3, Porsche 930/964/944/968/996, etc. I am very nostalgic about those cars frankly. None of those cars had huge hp/trq numbers, but they were so much fun to drive and hustle around.

Nowadays, cars have become so detached from the road, and so focused on big hp/trq numbers for useless reasons, I am hardly excited about anything. My eTron GT is a great example of that. It is a great car, very capable, but it is difficult to feel the connection as a driver. The GT cars from Porsche have been going in a similar direction after the 997 generation, bigger and less connected IMO. Same story with BMW and their new G8x generation cars.

So many of my friends have gone building or buying E36 M3 racers, or 996/997 ones. Very few people I know are looking into the newest generations. I think some of the top reasons cost, maintainability (too much computers involvement with the latest generation cars), and the fun factor.

So, given all of this shift that has been happening, I find waiting for Emira to be the possible realization of my former lusts :D

I Envy you :)
I tried to buy one of these here in Oz back at the end of 2019, the week they announced that they were dropping the manual in the new year, and JRA refused to take the build order! My test drive (which I had to also wait 6 months for) showed it was a really nice GT - different car than the Emira ,but a really nice manual drive. Congrats!
Very different than the Emira... but very pleasantly surprised... and for what it would have cost you new, to what I was able to grab it for, you made out well too!! Not sure why these are so undervalued currently, but I'll take it!!

I think you misread my post. Emira is better looking but I have reliability concerns about it.
Gotcha. I did a little research over the past decade plus for the most reliable super cars. It turns out, not surprisingly that Porsche and Audi were everywhere. One was a little bit of a shock. The 2009 model Ferrari F430. Those currently are priced around Emira levels but the interior is weak AF.

Is that Baltic Blue?

My ride until Emira is a classic 1989 Porsche 944 S2.
3.0 litre 4-cylinder 5-speed Transaxle providing 50/50 F-R weight balance and legendary handling. It passes the time.

My current 'fun' car... Used for track days, but still fully road legal and gets a lot of positive reactions / attention when driving around. Not really a 'placeholder', as will be keeping it and using it plenty once we get our Emira, but is the only 'sports car' in the current fleet...

Never would have expected to see a f430 there but I guess I only see the bad stories on you tube.

Yea, something about the last production year and then fixing the exhaust manifold problem. The interior isn’t 2009, more like 1989. The doors, the center console, the stereo….just awful. Have to tack on another $10,000 to bring it up to circa 2015.

Well, I thought I found my placeholder, then I looked at the weight rating and realized I would have to shed 11 kgs......:(

Cool. Not far off the Emira price. But only 20 minutes flight time?
Does it come with an extension cord?
