Dashcam for the Emira

It defaulted to the 0.5m listing - can you get away with 0.2m?
Yes purposefully as that was the one I bought - the 0.2m was too short, shame that the USB port is on the drivers side of the mirror rather than the passenger side if not it would be perfect

Is there 50cm of dangling cable? or is it easy to tuck it away cleanly?

I plan on getting the Viofo A139 Pro dash cam. 4K HDR with Sony Starvis 2 sensor. IMHO, currently one of the best dash cams you can buy.
Thanks for the recommendation. Looks like that fits the bill for all concerned:

Downsides of living in uk 😜

I’ve heard great things about this one: Next base 622GW

or even better about this other one: Garmin Dash Cam Live

Do we know if the next base cameras can be powered through the USB behind the mirror ?

I know their preferred option is the 12 volt power outlet

Yes.

The included 12vdc cig plug steps down to 5vdc foot usb.

Ah too bad. I guess a radar detector would be the most logical placement connecting to the mirror usb port. Unless of course you don’t need continuous recording.

Honestly you want a dedicated battery that charges while the ignition is on — draining your main 12v battery for parking mode is in general a bad idea.

Speaking of detectors, any recommendations for “stealth mode” systems? I realize they are frowned upon in many jurisdictions, but if they work then they won’t be found and if they are found then they aren’t stealth are they.

Something like this?

Yes, good point. I had a Thinkware F200 Pro dual cam professionally installed on my wife’s Rx450h. I opted not to install an optional battery for the dash cam, as the F200 Pro has an energy saving mode where recording will start only when an impact is detected. But I wanted continuous recording, so did not turn on this feature. If the drain on the 12v is severe enough, I’ll install a separate battery to power the dash cam (or activate the energy saving mode).
