DIY: Floating Console Modification

The entire exhaust system is stainless, no?
Hmm I was wondering about that as well. Seems plausible but don't know for sure. Regardless the frame and structure of the car isn't.

Is there an easy way of cutting the mesh with a dremmel and then remove it as it is not bolted in but slotted in. In not intending to put it ever back in so looking for a rather quick fix :)

You could most likely destructively cut a strip out of the center and then pull it out. certainly faster to do, you’d also have to vacuum out any debris.

🤔 I had the same thought when I saw this post. Would the shifter boot also come off cleanly if cut open?

Let us know how it turns out if you go this route.

The shift boot is so easy to remove, you also have to remove the top cover to bolt the shroud on. No point in cutting anything there.

The whole rear subframe of the V6 is galvanized steel. The rest of the chassis is extruded aluminum.

It’s not hard but it’s a pain in the ass. I think more so bc you don’t want to break something and wait months for parts from Lotus. That’s what was going on in my head.

But it is worth it! Parked it’s amazing to admire the pure open experience. Then driving it and looking down just makes it that much more special of a drive. That you @kitkat!

Fyi this is in 1st gear with GRP SS at the max setting.

Finally! Did it as well.. the way it is explained here. Thanks @kitkat. It was a pain in the ass and took me longer than expected.. dropped a few clips and had to source them back. The under process shots below. Finished when it was dark so no finished picture yet.

Now I need a 6spd gear plate to cover the top. For the moment I am keeping my alcantara gear gaiter on.. i was more interested in the below exposed gear linkage system.

If anyone has tried the 6spd cover plate let me know dimensions and will do some 3d print models
