If you're a true "audiophile", really have a discerning ear for sound, and won't settle for anything but the BEST, you'll likely not be happy with the KEF and want to spend thousands buying a different sound set-up. If that's you, buying the base sound system is likely the best option, so the $1,000 for the KEF goes towards something different. Alternatively, if you do your research (look at all the postings critiquing the KEF and describing upgrades) and see the $1,000 as a worthwhile start, to an eventual upgrade (different speakers and a sub-woofer, for example) then perhaps the KEF is a good idea. I know the OP has made his decision, so this is for others having the same debate.
I'm happy with the KEF even though I ++enjoy my tunes. It's all a matter of perspective and how fat your wallet is.
