Does anyone have the non-KEF audio system?

I'm not worried about spending a grand, but wondering if the base system is ok. And probably lighter.

Look up the threads on the KEF system in this forum. A number of people have issues with the sound quality.
I'm one of the people that find it OK, but there is a very vocal crowd that thinks otherwise

Apologies, my point was, the KEF is considered by some to be not worth the extra cost, no matter how poor the base system is

I don't think any "base model" Emiras or Emira V6s have been manufactured yet, let alone delivered.

Base models haven't been manufactured or delivered, its a bit early to say its not worth the $1k.
Most aftermarket full audio upgrades for this car are $5k-$7k(then go up from there.) Anything cheaper is an add-on to the KEF.

In my opinion, Kef sounds fine using apple car play with the volume louder. The bass is punchy enough for the mirrors to vibrate to the music.

However, normal FM radio play or driving with the volume low, there's a significant cut off in bass. I don't view it as bad, It balances with the engine sound pretty well for driving faster. If I want better clarity I just play music from my phone.

Thanks for the replies. I have to finalize my spec today, and so decided to get the KEF, since it occurred to me that there’s at least some chance that choosing the not-yet-produced standard system could have delayed production of my car.

Good choice. The metal speaker grills on the door are also only for the KEF upgrade. That alone is worth the extra cost IMO.

If you're a true "audiophile", really have a discerning ear for sound, and won't settle for anything but the BEST, you'll likely not be happy with the KEF and want to spend thousands buying a different sound set-up. If that's you, buying the base sound system is likely the best option, so the $1,000 for the KEF goes towards something different. Alternatively, if you do your research (look at all the postings critiquing the KEF and describing upgrades) and see the $1,000 as a worthwhile start, to an eventual upgrade (different speakers and a sub-woofer, for example) then perhaps the KEF is a good idea. I know the OP has made his decision, so this is for others having the same debate.

I'm happy with the KEF even though I ++enjoy my tunes. It's all a matter of perspective and how fat your wallet is.

I just didn't want to risk delaying my car by choosing the standard radio, when maybe they haven't even started building them yet. I figure they have the KEF installation perfected.

But I must admit, no tweeters behind the a-pillar tweeter grilles and 3 or 4 inch drivers in the doors seems like a bizarre choice, especially for an allegedly "premium" system.

I'm super curious about this too - About to spec my Lotus and I'm going to install an aftermarket system no matter what..curious to see the amp and speaker layout of the base system, and that the door cards look like. Sounds like nobody has detail on this?
